Electrical Controls Engineer |
Wilson, NC Contract:
6 - 12+ months

Springfield MO Overview:
The Electrical Controls Engineer is responsible for the design, specification, implementation, and support of electrical power, instrumentation, and control systems for engineered equipment and process solutions. This role works cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, field service, and customers to deliver compliant, high-quality systems while driving continuous improvement initiatives throughout the project lifecycle. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. Minimum of 3 years of experience with electrical power systems, including 400/480 VAC power distribution and motor control circuits. Experience performing electrical sizing calculations, including short circuit analysis, heat load calculations, and total power consumption assessments. Strong understanding of PLC hardware applications and implementation. Knowledge of process instrumentation and industrial control systems. Familiarity with NEC (NFPA 70) and UL508 standards. Experience specifying, selecting, and applying electrical components and instrumentation. Ability to interpret and develop instrument loop drawings, electrical schematics, and I/O lists. Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with European standards such as ATEX and IEC. Experience with AutoCAD, Inventor, and EPLAN software. Experience working in an OEM manufacturing environment. Prior experience implementing Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives. Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma experience. Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams and field service organizations. Responsibilities Review and understand project requirements, specifications, and objectives. Define electrical and instrumentation scopes of work and develop associated specifications. Execute quality management plans in accordance with company standard procedures. Perform electrical estimating, forecasting, and project planning activities. Develop and coordinate electrical design and manufacturing efforts to ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards. Assist in the development of control panel layouts, electrical schematics, instrument/control loop drawings, assembly drawings, and bills of materials. Maintain organized project documentation and records. Create hardware documentation including setup parameters, technical details, operation manuals, and maintenance manuals. Provide customer training on equipment operation and maintenance. Deliver technical support to customers, sales teams, and marketing personnel. Evaluate existing equipment and systems and recommend electrical upgrades and improvements. Develop control hardware design specifications. Support customer field service activities, including planned maintenance and emergency service requirements. Provide electrical engineering support during commissioning, startup, and customer acceptance testing. Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout project execution. Identify and drive Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives to improve quality, efficiency, and performance. Travel as required to support project and customer needs.
