Mercury Systems is seeking the best and brightest engineering talent to help us deliver cutting‑edge technology for mission‑critical aerospace and defense applications, advancing innovation where it matters most. In this role, our team is looking for a skilled Hardware Electrical Engineer II -who will execute digital board‑level hardware development activities from concept through production, working on projects that include secure processing systems, advanced FPGA solutions, high‑speed network interfaces, display technologies, and electronics designed for extreme environments. You will help drive the design and development of advanced embedded hardware used across undersea, airborne, land, and space platforms. This role is critical in delivering reliable, high‑performance board‑level solutions that support Mercury's mission of enabling trusted, secure, and rugged systems for national defense.
Job Responsibilities:
Design and develop board-level digital circuits and modules from concept through production, ensuring designs meet system and customer requirements Coordinate embedded hardware development activities for compute modules, signal‑processing systems, and high‑speed interface boards Design and implement high-speed digital interfaces such as Ethernet, PCIe, DDR SDRAM, SATA, USB, HD-SDI, LVDS
using cutting-edge technology from Intel, Microchip, Xilinx, Altera, NVIDIA, Broadcom, TI
Analyze design quality through peer reviews and verification practices
Collaborate with manufacturing to address board‑build issues and contributing to DFM, DFA, and DFT improvements
Develop detailed schematics using tools such as Cadence DEHDL (Concept) and collaborate with CAD/SI teams on PCB layout Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, or equivalent Typically requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in board-level hardware design, manufacturing, or sustaining engineering Experience designing embedded digital hardware products incorporating microprocessors, FPGAs, or network switch technologies
Experience with component and system level troubleshooting for digital, analog, and power circuits Proficiency in electronic circuit design, schematic capture, and understanding of high‑speed digital signal integrity fundamentals This position requires you to access information that is subject to U.S. export regulations. You may only access such information if you are a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. government
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience designing FPGA‑based hardware using Intel (Altera), AMD (Xilinx), or similar platforms
Background developing high‑speed digital interfaces (10G+)
Familiarity with Intel CPU architecture, BIOS firmware development, or network interface devices
Experience with defense/aerospace hardware including VPX (VITA 46/65), COM Express, or rugged electronics
Knowledge of military and aerospace standards such as MIL‑STD‑704F, 1275, 461G, 1399, or DO‑160G
Experience with video, display technologies, secure computing, anti‑tamper, or DRFM devices
Proficiency with Cadence Allegro or PCB layout review tools
Experience with requirements‑management tools such as JAMA, DOORS, JIRA, or Confluence
