Job Description

Hoboken, NJ (Hybrid / Local Travel) Overview An established engineering consulting firm is seeking an Electrical Commissioning Engineer to support commissioning and retro-commissioning projects across commercial and institutional facilities. This individual will play a key role in delivering high-quality engineering services while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and directly interfacing with clients. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing team focused on building performance, system optimization, and delivering complex projects from design through turnover. Key Responsibilities Technical Execution Lead and support commissioning and retro-commissioning activities for electrical and MEP building systems Develop commissioning plans, pre-functional checklists, and functional performance test procedures Review construction documents, shop drawings, and submittals to support commissioning deliverables Perform site visits, system inspections, and witness testing activities Track and manage commissioning issues logs through project lifecycle Prepare detailed technical reports, field observation documentation, and client correspondence Evaluate system performance to ensure compliance with Owner's Project Requirements (OPR) Project & Client Management Coordinate with project teams, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure successful project execution Manage multiple projects concurrently, including scheduling, scope, and deliverables Maintain day-to-day communication with clients and act as a trusted advisor throughout project delivery Identify risks, monitor progress, and implement solutions to keep projects on track Leadership & Collaboration Support and mentor junior engineers and commissioning staff Contribute to internal standards, technical procedures, and best practices Collaborate across engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, controls, fire protection) Assist in business development efforts through client relationship building and networking Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Architectural Engineering (relevant discipline) 5+ years of experience in commissioning, electrical engineering, or related field Strong understanding of electrical systems and building infrastructure (power distribution, lighting, controls, life safety, etc.) Working knowledge of HVAC systems and building automation/controls Experience with construction documentation, specifications, and commissioning processes Strong written and verbal communication skills Preferred Professional Engineer (PE) license or working toward licensure Familiarity with industry standards, codes, and contract documents (e.g., EJCDC, AIA) Experience managing projects and leading field activities Exposure to energy efficiency, retro-commissioning, or sustainability-focused projects What You'll Bring Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive, client-focused mindset Experience working directly with owners, contractors, and design teams Commitment to delivering high-quality engineering solutions and continuous improvement Why Join Opportunity to work on complex, high-impact building projects Collaborative team environment with strong technical mentorship Clear growth path into senior engineering or project leadership roles Exposure across the full lifecycle of commissioning projects Get job alerts Share Copied to clipboard Related roles Electrical Project Manager (BESS) Japan
