Onsite (Brooklyn, NY) Relocation Assistance Available About the Opportunity A key player in power generation is seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Controls Supervisor to support maintenance and reliability operations at a large steam-generating facility. This leadership position is responsible for directing a unionized I&C workforce while ensuring the safe operation, maintenance, and performance of plant instrumentation, controls, electrical equipment, and related systems within a continuous-process environment. Key Responsibilities Direct and oversee the daily work activities of union Instrumentation & Controls technicians supporting plant operations. Provide technical leadership for troubleshooting, repair, calibration, testing, and maintenance of instrumentation, control systems, protective relays, and electrical equipment. Partner with Operations, Engineering, and site leadership to maintain equipment reliability, operational readiness, and safe plant performance. Assist with outage preparation, equipment evaluations, failure analysis, and corrective action development. Support and troubleshoot plant Distributed Control Systems (DCS), including legacy control platforms and associated hardware. Utilize computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to track maintenance activities, work orders, inspections, and regulatory requirements. Lead complex diagnostic efforts involving aging plant assets and systems where documentation may be limited or incomplete. Promote compliance with plant safety standards, maintenance procedures, and reliability initiatives. Required Qualifications Minimum of five years supervising union employees within a power generation, industrial manufacturing, or similar 24-hour operating environment. Ten or more years of hands-on experience supporting instrumentation, controls, electrical, or maintenance functions in power plants, refineries, chemical facilities, or other heavy industrial operations. Demonstrated experience with DCS platforms such as Emerson Ovation, GE Mark VI, Siemens T3000, or comparable systems. Strong working knowledge of industrial instrumentation, process controls, electrical equipment, and protective relay systems. Experience interpreting electrical drawings, control schematics, and technical documentation. Background supporting relay testing, transformers, breakers, transmitters, and vibration monitoring technologies. Familiarity with CMMS software, including Infor EAM or similar maintenance management platforms. Knowledge of
NERC CIP
requirements, lockout/tagout procedures, and industrial safety programs. Ability to work in a physically demanding industrial setting, including climbing, confined space entry, and outdoor work in varying weather conditions. Preferred Background Previous experience supporting steam-electric generating stations, coal-fired facilities, or refinery operations. Experience maintaining and troubleshooting aging plant infrastructure and legacy control systems.
