Job Description

The Role:
As a Controls Engineering Intern, you will support the design, development, and implementation of automated control systems under the guidance of experienced Controls Engineers. This internship provides hands-on experience in working with PLCs, industrial communication networks, and electrical control systems. You will contribute to real-world projects and gain valuable insights into the day-to-day responsibilities of a Controls Engineer in a high-paced engineering environment. The iA Intern Program is a 10-week summer internship, running from, Tuesday June 1, 2027, through Friday, August 6, 2027. What you'll do: Assist in the design and commissioning of automation control systems, including: Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) Industrial communication networks Motor control systems (variable and fixed speed) Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs) Support in writing, testing, and documenting PLC code under supervision Help develop project scopes and system documentation Participate in reviewing system requirements and control strategies with engineering staff Assist in selecting components and reviewing technical specifications Learn to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams Support system testing and troubleshooting using diagnostic tools such as multimeters Collaborate with engineers to ensure projects are completed on time, on budget and within specifications Uphold safety standards and follow operational procedures at all times Maintain accurate records of work performed and contribute to continuous improvement efforts Who you are: Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field Basic understanding of control systems and automation concepts Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Effective written and verbal communication Attention to detail and willingness to learn Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Ability to work both independently and collaboratively Even better if you have: Exposure to PLC programming (e.g., ladder logic) Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. Employer will not sponsor applicants for work visas.
Compensation:
The estimated hourly rate range for this position is $18.00 to $26.00 per hour, though a candidate's hourly rate shall be determined on a range of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications and experience.
