Job Description

Job Title:
Controls Engineer Job Description This role focuses on designing, programming, testing, and commissioning industrial control systems in a manufacturing environment. The Controls Engineer develops PLC and SCADA applications, specifies and integrates control hardware and instrumentation, and ensures that control systems operate safely, reliably, and efficiently in accordance with project requirements, schedules, and budgets. Responsibilities Develop, test, troubleshoot, modify, and commission PLC-based control system applications using RSLogix and Siemens PLC platforms. Develop, test, troubleshoot, modify, and commission SCADA and HMI applications, including GE Proficy
HMI/SCADA
(iFIX) and FactoryTalk View ME. Specify and purchase control system hardware and instrumentation, ensuring compatibility with project requirements and equipment specifications. Read, interpret, develop, and modify control system design documents, including P&IDs, control system schematics, wiring drawings, I/O lists, and pneumatic and hydraulic drawings. Create and update written design specifications such as Functional Specifications, User Manuals, and Sequences of Operations. Produce detailed project documentation, including Functional Design Specifications (FDS), Hardware Design Specifications (HDS), and Software Design Specifications (SDS) as required by project specifications. Develop, modify, and configure PC-based relational databases to support control system applications and data collection. Install and integrate control systems in a cost-effective and timely manner, aligning work with project schedules, budgets, customer requirements, and equipment specifications. Report and present project progress, status, and technical findings to internal and external stakeholders in various formats. Perform value analysis and sustaining engineering tasks to improve manufacturability, productivity, reliability, safety, quality, and cost effectiveness of control systems and related products. Contribute to product improvement designs, recommending and implementing enhancements to control strategies and system architectures. Support Technical Support and Service personnel by providing engineering expertise, troubleshooting assistance, and technical guidance. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline. 3-5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment working with industrial automation and control systems. Hands-on experience programming and commissioning PLCs, including Allen-Bradley (RSLogix) and Siemens PLCs and I/O. Proficiency with SCADA systems, including GE iFIX and other
HMI/SCADA
platforms. Experience configuring and supporting FactoryTalk View ME HMI applications. Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols used in automation systems. Ability to read, interpret, and develop control system design documentation such as P&IDs, schematics, wiring diagrams, I/O lists, and pneumatic and hydraulic drawings. Experience in control panel design and integration within industrial automation environments. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain PC-based relational databases for control and data acquisition applications. Proven ability to deliver control system projects on time and within budget while meeting technical and customer requirements. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for diagnosing and resolving control system issues. Effective communication skills for presenting project status and technical information to internal and external audiences. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with industrial automation technologies across a range of manufacturing processes. Familiarity with developing Functional Design Specifications, Hardware Design Specifications, and Software Design Specifications. Background in value analysis and sustaining engineering to support continuous improvement initiatives. Experience working closely with technical support and field service teams to resolve complex automation issues. Exposure to product improvement projects aimed at enhancing reliability, safety, and overall system performance. Work Environment The role operates primarily in a manufacturing and industrial automation environment, involving both office-based engineering work and on-site activities at production facilities. The Controls Engineer works with PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems such as GE iFIX and FactoryTalk View ME, industrial communication networks, and control panel hardware. The position requires hands-on interaction with electrical panels, instrumentation, and automation equipment, as well as time spent at a computer developing software, design documents, and databases. Work typically follows standard business hours, with additional time as needed during project commissioning, testing, or critical production activities. The environment emphasizes safety, adherence to engineering standards, and collaboration with cross-functional teams including operations, maintenance, technical support, and service personnel. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Warminster, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $120000.00/hr.
