Engineer 2 Job Description This Engineer 2 position offers an exciting opportunity to support a leading Transmission Line Design organization. The role involves conducting electrical clearance analysis, creating line rating information for transmission lines, and developing line design data. Additionally, the position includes providing training to junior engineers and gaining extensive experience in electrical clearance analysis of electric transmission lines. Responsibilities Perform line electrical clearance analysis to support line design, line rating, vegetation management, and estimating processes. Conduct sag and tension calculations for conductor, ground wire, and fiber optic cables to ensure adequate ground and structure clearances. Assess and compile the results of electrical clearance analysis, span analysis, stress/strain, and vegetation management tools into reports for Line Rating SME review. Research and review engineering design drawings, schematics, specifications, and related documents, resolving discrepancies and updating as necessary. Perform engineering calculations and analyses in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, stress analysis, and AC/DC electrical circuits, compiling reports for SME review. Process survey data and import it into a relational database. Develop custom analytical tools and model complex systems using coding skills, including tools like Power Query for data extraction and transformation. Provide line rating support to design teams during project scoping. Train junior engineers in electrical clearance analysis as directed. Review industry standards and provide feedback to the Line Rating SME on developments related to electrical clearance and line rating. Contribute feedback to the SME in the formulation of line rating standards, processes, and guides. Essential Skills Bachelor's Degree from an ABET accredited college/university in mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering. 5+ years of engineering experience. 2+ years of engineering experience in transmission line design & analysis, or construction. Proficiency with PLS-CADD and experience performing electrical clearance analysis using PLS-CADD/LiDAR models. Solid knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, stress analysis, and AC/DC electrical circuits. Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and reverse engineer data involving catenary and electrical clearance analyses. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience using Bentley ProjectWise or similar programs. Experience using MS SharePoint or similar programs. Experience using Power Query in Excel or similar programs. Valid U.S. Driver's License required. First Aid/AED/CPR Certification required within 30 days of assignment start, with responsibility to maintain current certification. Work Environment The position is based in Vancouver, Washington, within a slower-paced office environment that offers somewhat flexible hours. The work is mostly sedentary with occasional field trips, and business casual attire is expected. The role involves a high degree of independence and detail-oriented, methodical work within a collaborative team setting.
