Job Description

Building Automation Systems (BAS) EngineerPosition Overview We are seeking a skilled BAS Engineer to design, program, commission, and maintain building automation systems for commercial and industrial facilities. The role focuses on implementing HVAC controls and automation logic to optimize system performance, energy efficiency, and occupant comfort. The BAS Engineer will work across project phasesdesign, field startup, and ongoing supportcollaborating with mechanical, electrical, and facilities teams to deliver reliable, code-compliant control systems.

Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, program, and commission
BAS/ALC/DDC
control systems for HVAC and associated building systems.

Develop and document sequences of operation, control narratives, and automation logic controls (DDC/ALC).Configure and integrate controllers, supervisory systems, and field devices (sensors, actuators, VAVs, chillers, boilers).Perform site surveys, functional testing, troubleshooting, and system optimization during startup and postcommissioning support.

Manage BACnet/Modbus and other protocol integrations, and coordinate thirdparty system interfaces and BAS integration with
BMS/SCADA
when required.

Prepare as-builts, commissioning reports, wiring diagrams, and O&M documentation; maintain accurate project records.

Provide technical guidance and training to operations staff and subcontractors; respond to service calls in the field.

Work with project teams to ensure systems meet project specifications, energy performance goals, and applicable codes and standards.

Support remote monitoring, fault detection, and analytics initiatives to improve system reliability and efficiency.

QualificationsAssociate or Bachelor's degree in Controls Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, HVAC Technology, or related field preferred.3+ years of hands-on experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS), HVAC controls, and field commissioning; experience as a Controls Engineer or BAS Field Engineer preferred.

Proven experience programming and troubleshooting DDC and ALC controllers and developing automation logic controls.

Familiarity with BAS hardware and software platforms (examples: Tridium, Honeywell, Johnson Controls, Siemens) and industry protocols (BACnet, Modbus) preferred.

Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and control strategies, including VAV, AHU, chiller, boiler, and pump control sequences.

Ability to read electrical and control schematics, create wiring diagrams, and perform field installations and testing.

Excellent problem-solving and communication skills; able to collaborate with mechanical/electrical teams, contractors, and clients.

Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites; ability to work safely in mechanical rooms and on construction sites.

Certifications such as NICET, CxA, or vendor-specific BAS certifications are a plus.
