Job Title:
Controls Engineer Job Description The Controls Engineer will be responsible for designing, programming, and commissioning control and automation systems. You will collaborate on standard systems as orders are received and take the lead on laboratory-level work such as prototyping and new technology vetting. Your role will involve troubleshooting, concept development with the production group, and working with various internal resources to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. Responsibilities Program and troubleshoot automated equipment using Rockwell Automation, Codesys, or Exor JMobile software. Develop control panel and control system schematics utilizing safety circuits, PLCs, VFDs, servo drives, robotics, automation networks, HMIs, all designed in AutoCAD Electrical software. Create and maintain BOMs and engineering changes associated with projects and resolve job specification differences. Review specifications and standard practices, including internal hardwired and logic standards, general specifications, and scope of work. Upgrade control systems of existing equipment and integrate new/existing equipment. Ensure work is completed in accordance with relevant codes and proper documentation. Participate in continuous improvement activities to enhance processes, efficiency, quality, and service. Collaborate with vendors to identify appropriate equipment necessary for the project. Work with the team to maintain project schedules, standards, and budgets. Provide assistance to other functional organizations such as manufacturing, assembly, customer service, and sales throughout the life of a project. Essential Skills Experience in PLC programming and HMI programming, particularly with Allen-Bradley systems. Proficient in Electrical Design using AutoCAD Electrical. Experience with automated equipment and troubleshooting. 2+ years of controls engineering experience, depending on education. Additional Skills & Qualifications Familiarity with common US and International Codes such as NEC, UL508A, and NFPA. Experience with equipment specifications and developing new concepts and cost-effective solutions. Competency with Rockwell software and AutoCAD Electrical. Electrical aptitude with knowledge of controls concepts like motion control and functional safety. Willingness and ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Ability to travel as necessary, approximately 10-15%. Work Environment This role offers a small company atmosphere with the flexibility of a hybrid work model, allowing 2-3 days per week of remote work after the initial period. While primarily onsite, there is potential for work-from-home flexibility once established in the position. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Cokato, MN.
