They're looking to add an Electrical Controls Engineer to their team as customer demand continues to grow. This is a great opportunity for someone coming from a machine builder, system integrator, custom automation, or equipment OEM who enjoys seeing projects through from design and programming to installation and startup. This is not a plant maintenance position. You'll be working on custom equipment and automation projects built around specific customer applications, collaborating closely with the electrical, mechanical, and project teams. What You'll Be Doing Develop and modify PLC programs for custom automated equipment based on customer specifications Support equipment testing, debug, and customer-witnessed acceptance testing Travel to customer facilities for installation, startup, and commissioning Create and modify electrical schematics, control panel drawings, field boxes, I/O diagrams, and wiring diagrams Work with platforms such as Allen-Bradley Studio 5000, Omron, Mitsubishi, and/or Toyopuc Develop electrical drawings using AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical Collaborate with engineering and build teams throughout the full project lifecycle Troubleshoot controls and electrical issues during equipment integration and startup What They're Looking For 2+ years of experience in PLC programming/commissioning and/or electrical hardware design Background with a machine builder, system integrator, equipment manufacturer, or custom automation company Experience developing PLC programs for automated equipment rather than solely maintaining existing production equipment Experience with electrical controls drawings and industrial control systems Comfortable working directly with customers during equipment installation and commissioning Automotive automation experience is a plus, particularly experience supporting Honda, Toyota, or similar manufacturing environments Travel & Schedule This is an on-site, Monday-Friday position in the Columbus area, with standard hours around 7:00 AM-3:30 PM and approximately 25% travel. Most travel is regional or domestic, including customer sites throughout Ohio and surrounding states, although occasional travel to Canada or Mexico may be required. Trips can range from a single overnight stay or long weekend to, less frequently, longer projects of up to a couple of weeks. Because many projects are completed during automotive plant shutdowns, some travel and commissioning work can fall on weekends or holidays, including year-end shutdown periods. Candidates should be comfortable with that aspect of the position. In return, the company takes care of its traveling engineers: Company-paid hotels and travel expenses Meal per diem Company vehicles available for project travel Comp time for weekend and holiday work Additional comp time for extended office hours under the company's policy Engineers typically travel and work onsite as a team, rather than being sent into projects completely on their own Why Join? This is a smaller, growing engineering organization where your work has a direct impact. The company is adding headcount because it has more customer demand than its current team can support, creating strong exposure to new projects and room to develop as the business grows. The culture is close-knit and family-oriented, with regular company lunches, employee events, summer outings, and family-inclusive holiday events. Management also offers some flexibility to work from home when project workload allows, although the position is primarily onsite due to the collaborative nature of the engineering work. If you're a Controls Engineer who enjoys custom machinery, PLC programming, electrical design, and getting equipment running in the field, I'd be happy to share more details.
