Electrical Design Engineer Job Description We are seeking a talented Electrical Design Engineer with a strong experience in hardware design to join a small team focused on the design and development of spaceflight hardware, specifically battery systems and circuits for a satellite mission. The selected candidate will lead the development effort for the battery subsystem and must possess prior experience with battery and power subsystems for spaceflight hardware. This role will contribute to a US Government satellite program, focusing on designing battery circuit and electronics systems for spaceflight hardware, alongside detailed specifications for battery subsystems. Responsibilities Design and simulate battery circuit and electronic systems for spaceflight hardware. Develop detailed specifications for battery subsystems. Enter schematics and layout boards, collaborating with a team to finalize the product build. Ensure reliable design of battery and power circuits to mitigate radiation effects in space. Manage studies on battery and power alternatives, chemistry composition, and form factor analysis for spaceflight power and battery systems. Create the Bill of Materials (BOM) and write assembly procedures. Work with test engineers to implement a complete test cycle from prototype power-up to serial testing of flight hardware. Essential Skills Design and development experience with spaceflight hardware, especially spacecraft/satellite power and battery systems. Experience in charging and discharging batteries for spaceflight electronics. Experience with high-reliability spacecraft/satellite/spaceflight missions and hardware. Hands-on circuit design experience using schematic capture and board layout software such as Altium or equivalent. Strong communication skills for updating the team on subsystem program progress, both orally and in writing. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. 5-10+ years of experience in relevant fields. Experience leading design efforts as an individual contributor. Analog circuit design experience is a plus. Experience with EGSE (Electrical Ground Support Equipment) design and development is advantageous but not required. Work Environment The role is based in an office environment. The position offers the potential for follow-on work as part of a new mission, with an initial engagement of 12-18 months.
