Job Title:
Electrical Engineer Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. At least 2 years of experience as an electrical engineer with a focus on electrical power, lighting, and communication system design for commercial, industrial, and institutional building projects. Proficiency in electrical engineering design for building systems, including power distribution and lighting. Experience using computer-assisted design or engineering software and equipment, including Revit. Ability to create and interpret technical documentation such as specifications, schematics, one-line diagrams, and construction documents. Strong understanding of electrical engineering safety standards and their application in building design. Knowledge of relevant electrical codes, ordinances, and industry standards. Capability to analyze owner and equipment requirements and translate them into effective design solutions. Strong communication skills for consulting with customers, engineers, and other project stakeholders. Ability to estimate project costs and define project scope, including objectives, deliverables, timelines, and resource needs. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience designing electrical systems for K-12 educational facilities. Experience in facility design for heavy industrial and commercial environments. Familiarity with collaborative, multi-discipline design workflows. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and documentation simultaneously. Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work setting, balancing in-office collaboration with remote tasks. Job Description This role focuses on designing electrical power, lighting, and communication systems for a wide range of building projects, including educational (K-12), heavy industrial, commercial, mixed-use, and multi-family facilities. The electrical engineer develops detailed designs and documentation, ensures compliance with codes and standards, and collaborates closely with other disciplines in a highly collaborative, hybrid work environment. Responsibilities Design electrical power, lighting, and communication systems for commercial, industrial, institutional, mixed-use, and multi-family building projects. Create detailed plans and specifications for electrical systems and equipment by analyzing owner requirements, understanding specific equipment needs, conducting feasibility studies, and determining the most suitable design approach. Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including specifications, schematics, one-line diagrams, and construction documents. Define the project scope by clearly outlining objectives, deliverables, timelines, and required resources. Estimate project costs by assessing materials, labor, and other resources needed for electrical system design and implementation. Perform a wide range of engineering tasks using computer-assisted design and engineering software and equipment, including Revit and related tools. Consult with customers, engineers, and other stakeholders to discuss existing or potential projects, gather requirements, and provide technical guidance. Ensure all designs and installations comply with applicable specifications, electrical codes, ordinances, and customer requirements. Coordinate and collaborate with other disciplines in the office to produce integrated and constructible design solutions. Support construction activities by responding to design-related questions and clarifying documentation as needed. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lansing, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $36.06 - $43.27/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
