ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking exceptional Electrical Engineers to join our growing team in Memphis and help design, build, and optimize the power infrastructure for xAI's high-density AI supercomputing facilities. This is a broad Electrical Engineer requisition covering three critical focus areas: Battery Storage Electrical Engineering (BESS, PCS, integration, controls) Power Transmission Electrical Engineering (high-voltage lines, substations, grid interconnection) Power Generation Electrical Engineering (on-site gas turbine generators, synchronization, protection) You will work on one or more of these areas depending on your expertise and business needs, collaborating across electrical, mechanical, power systems, and construction teams to deliver reliable, massive-scale power solutions. This is a full-time, onsite role based in the Memphis region.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Design and engineer electrical systems for on-site power generation, high-voltage transmission, and large-scale battery energy storage supporting AI superclusters. Develop single-line diagrams, protection & control schematics, relay settings, and interconnection designs. Perform detailed power system studies (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, transient stability, harmonics) using ETAP, PSS/E, or equivalent tools. Integrate electrical systems with generators, battery storage, transmission infrastructure, and data center loads. Ensure compliance with relevant standards (NERC, ERCOT, IEEE, NEC, NFPA, UL) and support permitting and utility coordination. Support equipment specification, vendor selection, factory testing, site commissioning, and energization. Conduct failure mode analysis (FMEA), root cause investigations, and reliability modeling to achieve extreme uptime targets. Collaborate with cross-functional teams on new facility builds, capacity expansions, and continuous improvement of power standards.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Experience in one or more of the following:
Battery Storage :
BESS, inverters/PCS, BMS integration, NFPA 855
Power Transmission :
High-voltage substations, transmission lines, grid interconnection (ERCOT)
Power Generation :
Gas turbine generators, excitation, synchronization, islanded operation Background with data centers, hyperscale facilities, or large on-site power infrastructure (>50 MW). Knowledge of
ERCOT, NERC
reliability standards, and utility interconnection processes. Experience supporting construction, commissioning, and operations of power systems. Track record of innovation or high-impact delivery in power infrastructure projects.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Perform hands-on work in all environments (heat, cold, rain), in tight quarters or at heights Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed; flexibility required Remain focused while working in hazardous environments, while wearing appropriate PPE Must be able to lift up to 25lbs unassisted Travel up to 50% to other locations Valid driver's license xAI is an equal opportunity employer.
