Controls Engineer Job Description The Controls Engineer designs and delivers technical solutions for control panels, SCADA systems, instrumentation, scale systems, and other custom automation projects. This role leads the technical oversight of control systems and serves as a key technical resource for both internal teams and external stakeholders across industrial, utilities, municipal, and manufacturing environments. Responsibilities Design and implement technical solutions for control panels, SCADA systems, instrumentation, scale systems, and custom control projects. Define project scope and develop conceptual designs that meet customer requirements and industry standards. Assist in preparing detailed technical proposals, including system architecture, components, and estimated effort. Support the sales team during customer presentations, proposal reviews, and technical discussions by clearly explaining control system designs and capabilities. Communicate technical project scopes, system functionality, and implementation approaches to clients in a clear and professional manner. Collaborate with municipalities, engineers, contractors, and industry partners to ensure successful project execution and long-term relationships. Provide technical leadership and oversight for all control systems interactions within the organization. Ensure that control system designs align with best practices in industrial automation and are compatible with SCADA and PLC platforms such as Allen-Bradley and Siemens. Troubleshoot and optimize control systems to improve reliability, performance, and maintainability. Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering standards, documentation practices, and design methodologies for control and automation projects. Essential Skills 10+ years of experience working with control systems in industrial, utilities, municipal, or manufacturing environments. Strong in electrical engineering as it relates to control systems and automation. Hands-on experience with PLC programming, including platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and similar systems. Proven experience with SCADA systems, including configuration, integration, and troubleshooting. Solid understanding of control panels, instrumentation, and automation hardware. Ability to clearly communicate technical project scopes and system designs to clients and non-technical stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional relationships with municipalities, engineers, contractors, and industry partners. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in water and wastewater industry applications. Experience in automation and controls engineering in industrial or municipal settings. Familiarity with designing and implementing control panels, PLC-based systems, SCADA architectures, and instrumentation solutions. Experience working on projects for municipal water and wastewater facilities. Ability to lead technical discussions and provide guidance on complex control system interactions. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Edna, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $57.00 - $68.00/hr.
