Controls EngineerPosition OverviewWe are seeking a Controls Engineer to design, develop, and commission industrial control systems that support reliable, safe, and efficient plant operations. The Controls Engineer will be responsible for PLC programming, HMI design, control system integration, testing, and ongoing troubleshooting, working closely with electrical, mechanical, and process teams to deliver projects from concept through start-up and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop and implement control system architectures for new and modified equipment and processes.
Program, configure and maintain PLC systems (e.g., AllenBradley, Siemens or similar) to implement control logic and sequences.
Develop, configure and maintain
HMI/SCADA
screens for operator interaction, alarm handling, and trend visualization.
Integrate field devices, sensors, actuators, and industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, ProfiNet, etc.) into control systems.
Perform factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), commissioning and startup activities; diagnose and resolve issues during deployment.
Create and maintain control system documentation, including functional specifications, I/O lists, control narratives, wiring diagrams and user manuals.
Troubleshoot, optimize and support existing control systems to improve reliability, performance and maintainability.
Collaborate with crossfunctional teams, contractors and vendors to meet project schedules, budget and quality targets, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
QualificationsBachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Automation, Mechatronics or related field, or equivalent experience.3+ years of experience in controls engineering, industrial automation or a related discipline.
Handson experience programming PLCs (ladder logic, structured text, function block) with platforms such as Rockwell/AllenBradley, Siemens, or equivalent.
Proven experience designing and developing HMI/SCADA
applications (e.g., FactoryTalk, Wonderware, Ignition, or similar).Familiarity with industrial communication protocols and networks (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, ProfiNet, OPC UA).Experience with commissioning, FAT/SAT procedures and field troubleshooting.
Strong problemsolving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate technical information clearly to multidisciplinary teams.
Working knowledge of electrical schematics, instrumentation, control panels and relevant safety standards (e.g., NFPA 70E, IEC 61508) is preferred.
Willingness to travel to job sites for commissioning, maintenance and project support as required.
