The Role The Controls Engineer is accountable for the design, implementation, troubleshooting, optimization, and long-term reliability of the plant's automation and control systems. This role serves as the primary technical owner of PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, industrial networks, instrumentation, and machine integration throughout the facility. As a key member of the startup team, the Controls Engineer will play a critical role in commissioning new production lines, integrating OEM equipment, establishing automation standards, and supporting the successful startup and ongoing operation of the Rockwall facility. The Controls Engineer reports to the Head of Automation, IT & OT and works closely with the Maintenance Manager, Production, Quality, Engineering, OEMs, and external integrators. Key Responsibilities Automation & Controls, SCADA/Data & OT Systems, Instrumentation & Utilities, Continuous Improvement, and Food Safety & Compliance responsibilities as drafted in the approved version. What Success Looks Like Startup Success, Downtime Reduction, Reliable Automation Systems, Documentation Excellence, Strong OEM Integration, Operational Visibility, and Continuous Improvement. Required Experience & Profile Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related discipline. Minimum 5-10 years of controls engineering experience with PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, industrial networking, instrumentation, commissioning, and high-speed manufacturing systems. Technical Skills Rockwell Studio 5000, FactoryTalk, Siemens TIA Portal, Schneider EcoStruxure Control Expert / Unity Pro, Ignition SCADA, Industrial Networking, VFDs and Motion Control, Instrumentation and Calibration, SQL Databases, OPC-UA Communications, Electrical Troubleshooting, Automation Documentation & Standards. Leadership Attributes Root Cause Obsessed, Systems-Minded, Calm Under Pressure, Detail-Oriented, Builder Mentality, Teacher/Coach. Location Rockwall, TX (DFW area). Regular presence in the facility is expected. Occasional travel to Delta, BC and Indianapolis, IN may be required.
