Job Requirements Manassas, VA Richmond, VA Charlotte, NC Clearance Unspecified Polygraph not specified Career Level not specified Salary not specified Join Premium to unlock estimated salaries Job Description We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Controls Engineer to drive the design, implementation, and delivery of complex automation and control system solutions. This role combines deep technical expertise in Allen-Bradley PLCs and/or Ignition SCADA with hands-on leadership across projects in industrial and mission-critical environments. Data center experience is a plus Key Responsibilities Lead complex controls and automation projects from design through commissioning Develop, validate, and implement high-quality PLC/SCADA-based solutions Program and configure Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Automation PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems (Ignition preferred) Ensure engineering best practices are followed across multiple disciplines Identify and manage technical risks throughout project lifecycles Provide technical leadership, oversight, and mentorship to engineering teams Collaborate with clients to design tailored automation and control solutions Support system integration, testing, and commissioning activities Develop and maintain project documentation and engineering artifacts Analyze system data and performance to drive optimization and improvements Ensure compliance with safety standards and resolve technical issues proactively Partner with project leadership to deliver projects on time and within budget
Qualifications Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Math, or Physics 5-10+ years of experience in controls engineering, automation, or related field Experience in industrial, manufacturing, utilities, or mission-critical environments Data center experience is a strong plus Preferred Certifications FE/EIT Certification NICET Certification LEED Accreditation DBIA Certification Core Skills & Expertise Strong hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley / Rockwell PLCs Experience with SCADA systems (Ignition highly preferred) PLC programming, HMI development, and system integration Commissioning, troubleshooting, and startup support Understanding of electrical systems, power distribution, and controls architecture Ability to lead projects and mentor junior engineers Experience with cost estimation, budgeting, and project delivery Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Effective communication and client-facing abilities Tools & Technologies Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley platforms Ignition
