Job Description

Hardware Electrical Engineer - Space Systems (U.S. Citizen or Perm. Res. required)

Location:

Onsite in

Sterling, VA Duration:

12 months to 3 years with potential for extension(s)

•ITAR required so must be U.S. Citizen, National, or Green Card Holder Position Summary The Hardware (Compute) Electrical Engineer will support digital electronics for a space-computing system built around processors, supporting devices, memory and complementary circuit cards. The role covers the full hardware lifecycle, but the immediate need is weighted toward analyzing and documenting existing designs, making controlled revisions, supporting production readiness, and debugging hardware. Design may represent only 10-15% of the near-term work; the engineer must be equally comfortable proving why the design works, documenting it and helping it succeed in test and production. Required Qualifications Experience with digital or mixed-signal hardware, processors, memory devices, embedded compute platforms or related circuit-card assemblies . Experience reading and revising schematics using Cadence/OrCAD/Allegro, Altium or similar professional ECAD tools . Experience performing or reviewing electrical analysis such as part-stress, worst-case, reliability, FMECA or signal-integrity analysis . Hands-on board bring-up, benchtop test and root-cause debugging experience . Ability to write and execute test procedure s and produce configuration-controlled engineering documentation. Strong fundamentals, positive and collaborative attitude, and ability to describe technical work with appropriate depth even when prior programs were classified. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related technical discipline. Approximately 4+ years of relevant electrical hardware experience. Key Responsibilities Understand, maintain and revise processor-, memory- and digital-interface circuit-card designs for space and defense applications. Perform or support part-stress, worst-case, reliability and other circuit analyses that substantiate the design. Support radiation analysis and radiation-mitigation activities; prior radiation-effects experience is a major advantage, but the team can teach the domain. Read existing schematics, select components, make controlled CAD changes and re-release drawings and design packages. Support high-speed digital interfaces, including Ethernet and related waveform/signal-integrity considerations where applicable. Develop and execute hardware test procedures; use oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and other laboratory equipment to diagnose failures. Write short Python scripts to communicate with hardware, automate tests and exercise functions such as memory testing. Use Linux to understand, bring up and troubleshoot the computing system and its hardware/software interfaces. Create and maintain requirements, drawings, bills of material, test procedures, analysis reports and production documentation. Collaborate closely with FPGA, embedded software, firmware, mechanical, RF, systems, test and program personnel. Preferred Qualifications Space, aerospace, defense or other high-reliability electronics experience. Radiation-effects analysis or design for radiation environments; candidates with this background should receive priority consideration. Python scripting for instrument control, test automation or hardware diagnostics. Linux experience for system bring-up and troubleshooting. High-speed digital design, Ethernet, memory interfaces, signal integrity, HDI PCB/PCA development or controlled-impedance design. Experience helping establish or improve a production line for complex electronics.

Ideal Candidate:

Digital hardware EE with 4-8 years of experience working with processors, memory, embedded compute, and circuit-card hardware . Strong at schematic/design work, engineering analysis, board bring-up/debug, and documentation, with enough Python/Linux knowledge to interact with and troubleshoot the compute platform.
