  • Full-time Job Summary This position provides support for the automation and controls department by designing control panels for equipment that is provided and/or supported by MP&C.
The majority of which is in the food and dairy industries. The individual in this position must maintain MP&C's integrity, professionalism and profitability through interaction with vendors, internal personnel and customers. Duties Must be able to size and specify hardware for the design of PLC and relay logic based control panels.
This includes:
PLC processors, vector frequency drives (VFDs), distributed I/O cards, network based communication cards, motor protectors, fuse blocks, wire sizes, etc. Must have an understanding of control panel NEMA ratings and effect of heat generation of internal components. Able to perform heat transfer calculations to specify external cooling equipment when required. Capable of creating electrical control schematics using AutoCAD (2D). Ability to create panel layout drawings for control technician to follow when building the panels. Ability to read and understand process instrumentation manuals and wiring diagrams (i.e. pressure transmitters, flowmeters, level transmitters, etc.). Strong understanding of electronics and ability to troubleshoot both controls and mechanical components. Understanding of vector frequency drives (wire terminations and basic parameter setup). Capable of specifying Ethernet switches and CAT-5/6 cables. A good understanding of plant I/O and HMI Ethernet topography. Ability to use a variety of testing instruments with skill (i.e. multi meter, 4-20mA signal generator, etc.) Work closely with project managers, process engineers, programmers, and control technicians to provide timely support. Interface with vendors for knowledge and guidance of component selections as well as to troubleshoot issues. Interface directly with customers for both installation and service support when required. On-call support approximately 1 week out of every two months. Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures. An average of 10% over night travel to both local and international customer facilities is required. Experience Excellent math and troubleshooting aptitude. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal personnel and external customers. Thorough understanding of control wiring (24VDC, Analog, Digitial). Good understanding of AC power wiring for motors and VFDs (120V/1Ph/60Hz & 230-480V/3Ph/60Hz) Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office
  • Word, Excel and Outlook) Very proficient at AutoCAD (2D).
Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive, professional attitude and providing exemplary customer service. This will require some changing of priorities based on project schedules and available information. Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices A minimum of an Associate technical school degree in Electrical/Controls Engineering Program.
