Role:
Quanta Power Solutions is seeking a skilled Instrumentation Designer II to support the development of electrical design deliverables for power generation, renewable energy, battery energy storage systems (BESS), data centers, substations, transmission, and industrial infrastructure projects. This role is responsible for independently executing design assignments, developing detailed electrical drawings and models, and supporting EPC project delivery from conceptual design through construction. The ideal candidate will have experience in industrial electrical design, strong CAD and 3D modeling capabilities, and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
What You'll Do:
Electrical Design & Drafting Develop and revise electrical design deliverables for power generation, renewable energy, BESS, data centers, and industrial facilities.
Prepare and update:
Single-line diagrams (SLDs) Electrical plan drawings Conduit and cable tray layouts Grounding and bonding systems Lighting and power plans Equipment arrangement drawings Support design of electrical systems including: Low- and medium-voltage distribution systems Motor control centers (MCCs) Cable routing and interconnection systems Auxiliary and balance of plant (BOP) electrical systems Incorporate engineering markups, redlines, and design revisions into final deliverables. 3D Modeling & Design Coordination Develop and maintain 3D electrical models using project specifications and engineering input. Perform model updates and coordinate design changes across disciplines. Assist with clash detection and model coordination activities. Integrate vendor equipment models into project designs. Ensure compliance with company CAD standards and project requirements. Project Execution Support Support projects through conceptual design, detailed engineering, and construction phases. Develop material take-offs (MTOs) and quantity estimates. Track assigned deliverables and ensure adherence to project schedules. Assist in preparation of construction packages and technical documentation. Maintain accurate drawing and model documentation. Multidisciplinary Coordination Coordinate electrical designs with civil, structural, mechanical, and instrumentation teams. Participate in design review meetings and coordination sessions. Identify and resolve design conflicts across disciplines. Support integration of electrical systems into overall facility layouts. Construction & Field Support Assist with field verification activities and site visits as required. Support responses to Requests for Information (RFIs) under engineer direction. Update drawings based on field conditions and construction feedback. Assist with as-built drawing development and project closeout documentation. Quality & Standards Follow company drafting standards, project specifications, and engineering procedures. Perform quality checks on drawings and models for accuracy and completeness. Support continuous improvement in drafting and design workflows. Maintain organized and accurate project files and documentation.
What You'll Bring:
Education & Experience Associate degree or technical diploma in Electrical Design, Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field. Minimum 3-5 years of electrical design/drafting experience. Experience in power generation, EPC, industrial, utility, or infrastructure projects preferred.
Technical Skills Strong knowledge of:
Electrical drafting principles Power distribution systems (MV/LV) Industrial electrical layouts and construction documentation Experience with: Single-line diagrams and electrical schematics Cable routing and conduit design Engineering redlines and revision processes Proficiency with: AutoCAD Revit Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) Experience with Plant 3D, Navisworks, or BIM coordination tools preferred. Professional Skills Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Strong attention to detail and technical accuracy. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Strong communication and teamwork abilities. Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced EPC environment. Willingness to learn and grow in complex engineering environments. Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods. Ability to travel periodically for site visits, field verification, and construction support activities. Ability to work in active industrial and construction environments as required.
