Position Summary:

Under general supervision the E&I Designer III performs electrical and instrumentation design and drafting activities for plant and industrial projects. This position supports all aspects of project design, including field verification, 2D drafting, 3D modeling, scan data integration, equipment and instrument layouts, cable and conduit routing, and development of electrical and instrumentation deliverables. The E&I Designer III applies advanced knowledge of electrical and instrumentation systems, P&IDs, electrical and instrumentation diagrams, drafting standards, plant design practices, and 3D modeling techniques. This position performs complex design assignments with little to no assistance and works closely with E&I project leads, engineers, construction personnel, and clients to ensure quality, accuracy, and schedule requirements are met.

Key Responsibilities:

• Performs medium to complex E&I design work, including 3D modeling and laser scan/scan data integration, with little to no assistance.
• Develops complete electrical and instrumentation design packages for checking.
• Performs field walkdowns to verify existing plant conditions, equipment, instrumentation, electrical systems, and routing.
• Apply advanced knowledge of P&IDs, electrical diagrams, instrumentation diagrams, and control systems.
• Reviews equipment drawings, models, specifications, and vendor documentation and incorporates applicable information into project design.
• Creates and maintains Electrical Load Lists, Instrument Indexes, Cable Schedules, and other E&I design deliverables.
• Updates electrical and instrumentation drawings to reflect project scope changes, field conditions, and design revisions.
• Models cable trays, conduits, electrical equipment, instrumentation, junction boxes, and other E&I components in 3D.
• Performs electrical and instrumentation routing and layout within existing plant facilities.
• Incorporates vendor drawings and equipment information into electrical and instrumentation designs.
• Participates in 3D model reviews and coordinates E&I design with engineering and other disciplines.
• Supports the development of construction and installation packages.
• Works closely with E&I project leads and engineers to ensure design quality, accuracy, and project schedules are maintained.
• Provides field support to construction during installation activities, plant outages, and turnarounds.
• Assists with resolving field design issues and provides design clarification to construction personnel.
• Ensures design work follows applicable company, client, industry, and plant drafting standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 10 years of industry-related E&I design experience, preferably within plant, refinery, petrochemical, chemical, power, or other industrial facilities.
• Complete understanding of P&IDs, electrical diagrams, instrumentation diagrams, and control systems.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Proficient with current releases of AutoCAD.
• Proficient with 3D plant design software and 3D modeling.
• Proficient with laser scan/scan data and LFM or similar scan-data software.
• Strong understanding of electrical and instrumentation design practices within an operating plant environment.
• Ability to interpret equipment drawings, vendor drawings, engineering documents, and specifications.
• Ability to perform field walkdowns and accurately document existing conditions.
• Ability to effectively communicate with peers, coworkers, clients, customers, construction personnel, and the general public.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while effectively supporting a multidisciplinary project team.
• Preferred Qualifications
• Experience designing within operating plants, refineries, petrochemical facilities, chemical plants, power plants, or other industrial facilities.
• Experience with plant turnarounds, outages, maintenance projects, or construction support.
• Experience with Smart 3D, AutoCAD Plant 3D, or similar 3D plant design software.
• Experience working with laser scanning, point-cloud data, and existing plant models.
• Knowledge of electrical equipment, cable tray systems, conduit, instrumentation, junction boxes, control systems, and field installation practices.

This job primarily operates in a professional office setting but must be able to traverse plant or field construction sites as required.

Physical Demands:

This role requires the ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer.

• Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
