Job Title:
Engineering Technician (Electrical Focus) Job Description The Engineering Technician (electrical focus) supports a growing engineering team by assisting with the design, validation, documentation, and optimization of industrial control panel solutions in a manufacturing and automation environment. This role works closely with engineering, operations, and external partners to translate electrical designs into manufacturable products, apply hands-on fabrication and troubleshooting skills, and ensure projects meet performance, cost, and delivery objectives. Responsibilities Interface professionally with client and distributor representatives to clarify requirements, discuss design options, and support project execution. Create accurate Bills of Materials for non-engineered solutions to support quoting, procurement, and production activities. Validate engineered solutions to ensure they meet design intent, functional requirements, and manufacturability standards. Collect, organize, and maintain complete design and build packages, including drawings, specifications, and related documentation. Quote and identify alternate electrical components to optimize delivery times, improve design performance, and reduce overall cost. Act as a liaison between Operations, Engineering, and other internal teams to coordinate design intent, production needs, and as-built documentation. Schedule and execute design and manufacturing kickoffs and reviews to align stakeholders and ensure smooth project handoffs. Perform AutoCAD schematic creation and design development tasks to support control panel and system layouts. Apply design, fabrication, and troubleshooting skills daily within the industrial automation space, particularly for customized products and large equipment. Work with electrical schematics and engineering drawings to understand, interpret, and support the manufacturing and assembly process. Support the design and build of industrial control panels, including involvement in panel design, panel building, or both. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure products are designed with manufacturability, safety, and reliability in mind. Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to resolve issues, clarify technical details, and support project milestones. Participate in and successfully complete UL certification and DGU training courses when available. Support regional projects through occasional travel, providing on-site technical assistance as needed. Essential Skills Minimum of 2 years of exposure to industrial control panels, including wiring builds or programming experience. Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a technician role within an industrial automation, fabrication, or manufacturing setting involving customized products. 2-3+ years of experience in a heavy industrial, automation, or manufacturing environment. Hands-on experience with fabrication in a manufacturing or product-related setting. Electrical background with the ability to read electrical drawings and understand basic electrical principles. Experience working with electrical components such as VFDs, PLCs, motors, and fans. Familiarity with industrial automation, control panels, wiring, and PLC-related work. Ability to work confidently with schematics and engineering drawings. Experience with product-related manufacturing involving electrical or mechanical components and large products or equipment. Some experience with CAD or drawing software in a design or documentation context. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills applied to design, fabrication, and troubleshooting of systems. Ability to understand how products are manufactured and fabricated, and how components come together into complete systems. Strong communication skills for frequent interaction with internal teams and external partners. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills to manage multiple tasks and collaborate effectively. Demonstrated drive to contribute to the growth of a local and regional operation. background in electrical panel design and/or strong panel building experience. Additional Skills & Qualifications Proficiency in AutoCAD is a plus and supports schematic and design development work. Any prior AutoCAD experience is considered an advantage. Experience with 3-phase electrical systems is a plus. Exposure to advanced controls or control systems is beneficial. Successful completion of UL certification and DGU courses is required when training sessions are offered. Experience with design and fabrication tools such as Bluebeam or similar software is helpful. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex electrical and automation systems is highly valued. Work Environment This is a full-time role in a heavy industrial, automation, and manufacturing environment with standard hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and minimal overtime. The position supports and executes work for the engineering team and collaborates closely with an assigned engineer for day-to-day activities. The work involves regular interaction with operations, engineering, and external partners, as well as hands-on exposure to industrial control panels, large equipment, and customized products. The environment emphasizes safety, quality, and collaboration, with access to tools and technologies such as CAD software (including AutoCAD), electrical test equipment, and standard fabrication resources. Regional travel may be required on a sporadic basis to support regional projects and on-site activities. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of St. Louis, MO. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $30.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
