AutoCAD Electrical Specialist / Controls Designer Job Description The Controls Designer will rebuild and optimize component databases and libraries while producing high-quality electrical schematics and panel layouts for custom industrial control panels. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented AutoCAD Electrical power user who enjoys deep technical configuration work, creating clean and accurate drawings, and is interested in growing into full controls design involving PLC and HMI systems over time. Responsibilities Maintain and optimize AutoCAD Electrical databases, symbol libraries, and component catalogs. Create electrical schematics, panel layouts, and BOMs for industrial control panels. Design and document power distribution, motor controls, safety circuits, and automation systems utilizing Allen-Bradley/Rockwell components. Ensure compliance with NEC, UL 508A, and applicable industry standards. Support panel shop and automation teams through project execution, troubleshooting, and technical documentation. Train junior designers and help establish drawing standards, templates, and best practices. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality designs on schedule and support future PLC/HMI development initiatives. Essential Skills 3-5+ years of AutoCAD Electrical experience in an industrial controls, panel shop, or automation environment. Strong knowledge in industrial control panel design, including power distribution, motor controls, safety circuits, sensors, and heaters/SCRs. Experience managing AutoCAD Electrical component databases, symbol libraries, catalogs, and panel footprints. Ability to create electrical schematics, panel layouts, and bills of materials (BOMs). Knowledge of NEC, UL 508A, and industrial safety standards. Familiarity with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell products and controls systems. Exposure to PLC and HMI platforms such as Studio 5000 and FactoryTalk View preferred. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to manage multiple projects. Experience mentoring junior designers and collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams is a plus. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Watertown, WI.
