Design Technician Job Description We are seeking a highly motivated Design Technician to perform design work for a variety of utility customers using AutoCAD. You will complete designs for associated utility projects, engaging in tasks such as drafting, engineering calculations, and easement validation. The role requires a dynamic individual capable of managing multiple projects to ensure timely, successful completion and high levels of customer satisfaction. Responsibilities Perform drafting and engineering calculations for utility design projects. Validate easements and estimate design/construction costs. Develop permit packages for utility projects. Conduct surveys and inspections of overhead and underground lines. Test and document power distribution, compressors, and related facilities. Manage multiple projects to assure timely completion and customer satisfaction. Review GIS Smallworld for updates or conflicts. Coordinate construction projects across multiple departments to meet deadlines. Incorporate company safety rules, design standards, and regulations into daily work. Design and process permit files for overhead and underground utility electric projects. Decipher electronic pole diagrams. Essential Skills Proficiency in AutoCAD. Ability to pass a math/measurement assessment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Associate's degree in design, drafting, engineering, or a similar field. Experience with CAD is a plus. Familiarity with GIS Smallworld is advantageous. Work Environment This position involves working 20% of the time in the field and 80% in an office or remote setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Paul, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
