Job Title:
Distribution Designer Job Description The Distribution Designer designs and lays out electrical power distribution systems for residential, commercial, and industrial projects. This role creates detailed CAD drawings and electrical schematics, performs load calculations, and conducts field surveys to verify site conditions. The Distribution Designer ensures all designs comply with applicable codes and standards, collaborates closely with engineers, contractors, and utility stakeholders, and supports power delivery projects including overhead and underground systems, reconductoring, and storm hardening initiatives. Responsibilities + Design and layout electrical distribution systems for residential, commercial, and industrial projects. + Create detailed CAD drawings, electrical schematics, and design documentation for power distribution projects. + Perform load calculations and assess system capacity to ensure reliable and efficient power delivery. + Conduct field surveys to gather data, verify site conditions, and support accurate design decisions. + Collect and interpret field data to inform utility design, pole loading analysis, and distribution layouts. + Ensure all designs comply with local, state, and federal codes, as well as relevant utility standards. + Collaborate with engineers, designers, contractors, and utility companies throughout the project lifecycle. + Review and approve shop drawings, connection diagrams, and related technical documents for accuracy and compliance. + Utilize design and pole loading software, CAD tools, and GIS platforms to develop and refine distribution designs. + Support overhead and underground (OH/UG) distribution projects, reconductoring efforts, and storm hardening initiatives. + Contribute to power delivery and utility design projects by integrating field data and design best practices. + Participate in remote collaboration with local and geographically dispersed engineering and design teams. Essential Skills + At least 3+ years of experience in power distribution design or utility design. + Demonstrated experience in electrical distribution design for residential, commercial, and industrial applications. + Proficiency in CAD software for creating detailed electrical drawings and schematics. + Experience with overhead and underground (OH/UG) distribution systems. + Experience supporting reconductoring and storm hardening projects. + 3+ years of experience using design and pole loading software. + Hands-on experience with field data collection and verification of site conditions. + Strong understanding of electrical design principles and utility design practices. + Familiarity with GIS tools used in power delivery and distribution design. + Ability to perform load calculations and assess system capacity for electrical distribution networks. + Knowledge of local, state, and federal codes related to electrical distribution and utility design. + Minimum of a high school diploma. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience working in the field to collect data and validate design assumptions. + Experience in power delivery projects and utility infrastructure design. + Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, designers, contractors, and utility stakeholders in a remote environment. + Strong attention to detail when reviewing and approving shop drawings and connection diagrams. + Interest in gaining or expanding experience in power distribution and fielding work, including support for large utility projects. + Comfort working with distributed teams using digital collaboration tools. Work Environment This position operates primarily in a remote work environment, providing flexibility and the ability to collaborate with engineers and designers located both locally and in other regions. The role includes approximately 20% field work, requiring site visits to collect data, verify conditions, and support accurate distribution design. Team members use design and pole loading software, CAD tools, and GIS platforms to complete their work. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Allentown, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $44.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
