Job Title:
Drafter Job Description This role focuses on converting engineering drawings from MicroStation to AutoCAD and supporting electrical design projects within the natural gas and pipeline industry. The drafter collaborates closely with electrical engineers, maintains accurate design documentation and standards, and ensures high-quality deliverables for a busy and technically challenging project environment. Responsibilities Convert existing drawings from MicroStation to AutoCAD with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Update bill of material descriptions to reflect current designs, components, and standards. Work closely with engineers who provide redlines and markups, incorporating changes into drawing standards and project documents. Follow all company and project design and drafting standards consistently across all deliverables. Execute, organize, and maintain revisions and updates to drafting and design standards in a logical, well-structured manner. Perform thorough self-checks and reviews of work deliverables to ensure quality assurance and compliance with standards. Collaborate with electrical engineers to complete project deliverables on time and in line with technical requirements. Prioritize projects and workload based on urgency and importance, communicating effectively with the engineering team. Support additional drafting needs across related engineering groups when required. Essential Skills 2-5 years of AutoCAD 2D drafting experience. Proficiency in drafting using AutoCAD, including creating, modifying, and updating drawings. Foundational understanding of electrical equipment, components, and systems. Ability to interpret and apply redlines from engineers to update drawings and standards. Strong attention to detail and ability to self-review work for quality and accuracy. Capability to follow established design and drafting standards and maintain consistency across documents. Effective time management skills to prioritize and manage multiple projects based on urgency and importance. Strong collaboration skills to work alongside electrical engineers and other technical team members. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with electrical drafting or AutoCAD Electrical is highly beneficial. Strong electrical knowledge, even without prior AutoCAD electrical drafting experience, is an advantage. Exposure to natural gas, pipeline, power distribution, or electrical design projects is preferred. Background or education in electrical engineering, electrical design, or a related technical field is an asset. Experience in the oil and natural gas industry is preferred but not required. Ability to adapt to and learn company-specific standards, procedures, and drafting practices. Interest in growing technically and advancing within the energy and pipeline industry. Work Environment This position operates within a quiet engineering office environment in Owensboro, Kentucky, supporting a large natural gas transmission system spanning multiple Midwestern and Mid-Continent states. The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday. The first month of employment is expected to be in-office for training and to learn standard operating procedures, followed by a hybrid structure with one set week in the office per month, with flexibility to come in as needed based on engineers' schedules. Onsite work is preferred but strong candidates may work in a more flexible hybrid arrangement. The drafter works alongside a team of 3-4 electrical engineers who serve as technical subject matter experts, providing significant opportunities for learning and professional growth. The office culture is described as a flexible team environment with a strong project workload and potential for contract extension. Casual dress is appropriate in the office. A paid time off allocation of 40 hours is offered for the six-month contract term. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Owensboro, KY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $34.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
