POSITION SUMMARY:
The Field Engineer plays a vital hybrid role within Westview, serving as the technical bridge between Sales & Estimating, Project Engineering, and Field Operations. Combining technical design acumen with hands-on field capability, this position provides direct technical support to the Sales team and Estimating Department by conducting comprehensive site surveys, evaluating existing conditions, and developing initial system designs and equipment layouts. In the engineering and drafting phase, the Field Engineer assists the Project Engineer by drafting and revising AutoCAD drawing packages, conduit risers, one-lines, and submittal documentation. During project execution, the Field Engineer serves as the team's primary on-site technical resource—verifying field conditions, resolving discrepancies, maintaining live drawing redlines, and ensuring all project drawings and as-builts remain accurate and synchronized from pre-sale through final commissioning.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Sales Design & Site Surveys (Pre-Sale / Pre-Construction): Perform pre-sale and pre-construction site surveys and field verifications to evaluate architectural conditions, existing electrical infrastructure, conduit pathways, structural interfaces, equipment mounting requirements, etc. Collaborate directly with Sales and Estimating to develop feasible, cost-effective technical solutions for theatrical lighting, architectural controls, rigging, and custom integration, serving as the primary technical resource for proposal development. Review bid documents, architectural plans, and consultant specifications to identify technical constraints, architectural conflicts, and scope requirements. Create initial one-line drawings, system block diagrams, and drawing take-offs to assist the estimating team with accurate cost analysis and proposal preparation. Assist in configuring lighting, power distribution, and control network topologies based on project specifications, site parameters, and manufacturer capabilities. Participate in pre-sale client and design meetings alongside Sales representatives to discuss technical viability, product capabilities, and system design options.
Drafting & Project Engineering Support:
Assist the Project Engineer in producing and revising technical drawing packages in AutoCAD, Rhino, and Bluebeam, including system one-lines, device elevations, riser diagrams, and detail sheets. Prepare and compile submittal packages including assembling technical data sheets, highlighted cut sheets, and drawing packages for architect, engineer, and client review. Generate accurate fabrication and shop drawings for custom theatrical equipment, rigging attachments, and custom integration assemblies. Assist in generating and reconciling Bills of Materials (BOM) in coordination with the Project Engineer to ensure all required components and accessories are captured. Maintain Westview CAD drafting standards across all drawings, including layer naming, xref management, sheet sets, and revision blocks. Job-Site Engineering & Drawing Updates (Field Execution): Act as the team's on-site engineering resource during installation, assisting Project Managers, Field Service technicians, electrical contractors, and general contractors. Inspect job-site progress against approved shop drawings for early detection of installation clashes, layout discrepancies, or unforeseen site conditions. Troubleshoot technical challenges in the field and propose practical, code-compliant engineering solutions in coordination with the Project Engineer and Project Manager. Maintain, track, and manage drawing redlines throughout project execution using Bluebeam Studio Projects and Sessions. Incorporate field redlines into active CAD drawings on a prompt, regular cadence so field crews and subcontractors are always working from current information. Perform final field verifications to generate accurate As-Built drawing sets and compile final close-out documentation (i.e., O&M manuals, warranty records, and system turnover packages) upon project completion.
General & Cross-Functional Responsibilities:
Collaborate closely with Project Managers and Field Service Managers regarding engineering schedule, drawing release dates, and site coordination needs. Coordinate with manufacturers and vendor representatives regarding technical specifications, product updates, firmware compatibility, and equipment troubleshooting. Adhere strictly to job-site safety standards, OSHA regulations, and Westview company policies on all job sites. Participate in manufacturer technical trainings, product presentations, and professional certifications to maintain high-level technical expertise. Complete additional tasks and engineering assignments as business needs evolve.
