Job Description

Contech Control Services is seeking a team-oriented E-House Design Lead with expert knowledge of instrumentation and electrical design for modular power distribution and control buildings. This role requires hands-on experience with motor control centers (MCCs), medium-voltage (MV) and low-voltage (LV) switchgear, control systems, point-to-point wiring, industrial communications, and code-compliant building and equipment integration. Primary Duties and Responsibilities The E-House Design Lead performs a wide range of duties which include some or all of the following:
  • Lead the detailed I&E and electrical design and integration of turnkey E-Houses, power distribution centers (PDCs), remote instrument enclosures (RIEs), and Power skids solutions, from proposal and site survey through fabrication, testing, delivery, installation, and startup
  • Lead designers during site surveys and design-input reviews; verify existing conditions, equipment data and footprints, code clearances, access and egress, cable-entry locations, penetrations, and interfaces, and reconcile discrepancies before design release
  • Develop, check, and coordinate general arrangements and equipment layouts; single-line and cable block diagrams; instrument plans; cable tray and conduit routing; power, lighting, receptacle, and grounding plans; cable schedules; motor schematics; relay logic; loop, wiring, termination, and point-to-point interconnection diagrams; I/O documentation; network architecture; panel schedules; and as-built drawings • Develop and check fabrication and installation drawings and bills of material for MCCs, MV and LV switchgear, variable-frequency drives, transformers, UPS and DC systems, protective relays, control and marshalling panels, field junction boxes, cable tray, grounding systems, and related auxiliary equipment • Provide hands-on layout and integration of MCC and MV/LV switchgear lineups, including working and maintenance clearances, arc-flash boundaries and labeling inputs, access and egress, heat-dissipation data, lifting and equipment-removal paths, bus and cable interfaces, anchorage and support interfaces, and transportation or shipping splits • Define and verify point-to-point connectivity, cable and terminal assignments, I/O cross-references, fiber and copper media, network topology, and communication-protocol interfaces between switchgear, MCCs, protective relays, PLC/DCS/SIS/SCADA systems, package equipment, and client systems • Prepare engineering and construction scopes of work, design criteria, datasheets, instrument and electrical specifications, vendor drawing reviews, material takeoffs, estimates, and proposal inputs, while meeting client drawing and document-control requirements • Check designs for compliance with NFPA 70 (NEC) and applicable NFPA, IEEE/ANSI, NEMA, UL, ISA, IBC/IFC, client, state, and local requirements; lead design reviews, clash and constructability reviews, and interdisciplinary checks before issue for fabrication or construction • Coordinate with structural and civil, HVAC and mechanical, fire protection, controls and systems configuration, fabrication and quality, vendors, construction, and subcontractors on equipment loads and supports, building openings and penetrations, environmental and heat-load criteria, grounding, fire detection and suppression, and field interfaces • Support shop fabrication, vendor coordination, FAT/IFAT, field installation, cutover, commissioning, electrical startup, troubleshooting, redlines, and final as-built turnover; assign and check design work, mentor designers, and report schedule, hours, progress, and forecast information to the Project Manager; perform other duties as assigned Requirements The E-House Design Lead requirements include, but are not limited to, the following: • Associate's degree in Computer Drafting and Design, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline; equivalent directly relevant experience will be considered • Minimum of 10 years of progressive I&E or electrical design experience, including substantial experience leading E-House, PDC, RIE, modular control-building, or industrial power-distribution design • Demonstrated hands-on detailed-design and equipment-integration experience with MCCs, LV switchgear and switchboards, and MV switchgear, including equipment up to 35 kV nominal / 38 kV class as applicable, plus protective relays, transformers, VFDs, UPS and DC systems, and control panels • Expert working knowledge of NFPA 70 (NEC), including equipment working clearances, cable and raceway requirements, grounding and bonding, hazardous-location considerations, and industrial electrical installations; familiarity with NFPA 70E, IEEE/ANSI, NEMA, UL, ISA, IBC/IFC, and applicable local codes • Strong knowledge of E-House and industrial-building integration, including equipment layouts, cable entries, penetrations, access and egress, lighting and grounding, HVAC interfaces and heat loads, fire-protection interfaces, structural supports and anchorage, and transportation constraints • Proven ability to develop and check point-to-point wiring, terminal plans, cable schedules, I/O cross-references, and industrial communication networks using fiber and copper media; working knowledge of protocols such as Modbus TCP/RTU, DNP3, EtherNet/IP, IEC 61850, and Profibus/Profinet, as applicable • Extensive experience with DCS, SIS, PLC, SCADA, field instrumentation, protective-relay and control interfaces, and electrical startup and troubleshooting • Proficient in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation; experience with AutoCAD Electrical and 3D/BIM coordination tools such as Revit or Navisworks is preferred • Strong design-checking, leadership, planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with clients, engineers, designers, vendors, shop personnel, and field teams • Proficient with Microsoft Office and document-management systems; working knowledge of
SPI/AVEVA
Instrumentation or equivalent engineering databases is a plus Working conditions are as follows:
