About this Role Power Engineering Services, a Quanta Services Company, is looking for an Protection & Control Designer to join our growing team. In this role, you will support the design and delivery of high-voltage substation projects for electric utilities, contractors, and developers. You'll contribute throughout the project lifecycle—from conceptual design through detailed engineering and construction support—while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality solutions. What You'll Do Develop comprehensive protection and control design packages for high-voltage substations, including: Single-line diagrams Protection and control schematics Elementary and wiring diagrams Control house layouts Relay panel front and rear layouts Bills of material (BOMs) Design auxiliary systems, including station batteries, battery chargers, and associated equipment. Coordinate with engineers, designers, and other disciplines to ensure accurate and efficient project execution. Provide technical support during construction, respond to field questions, and assist with design revisions as needed. Deliver quality work while meeting project schedules, budgets, and client expectations. What You'll Bring Associate degree in Engineering Technology or a related technical discipline 6+ years of experience in protection and control design for utility substations Experience designing substations ranging from 15kV through 345kV Working knowledge of applicable IEEE, ANSI, and utility design standards. Proficiency with AutoCAD; experience with MicroStation is a plus. Strong understanding of protection and control design principles, drafting standards, and construction practices. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Willingness to learn new technologies and design software as needed.
