Job Description

This hands-on role is critical to supporting the development, testing, and validation of custom electronics for autonomous vehicles. Sitting at the intersection of testbench fabrication and board-level validation, the Electrical Engineering Technician transforms electronic designs into road-ready hardware. Approximately 60% of the time focuses on Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testbench assembly, mechanical framework integration, and wiring harness fabrication. The remaining 40% of the time involves inspecting circuit boards from contract manufacturers, fine-pitch soldering/rework, firmware flashing in Linux, circuit testing/validation, and preparing hardware. Key Responsibilities HIL Testbench Assembly & Wiring (60%): Build and assemble HIL testbenches, including large mechanical assemblies, electrical wiring, component integration, and wiring harness fabrication. PCB Rework & Soldering (40%): Inspect incoming circuit boards for quality/workmanship issues; perform fine-pitch surface-mount (SMD) rework, soldering, and hand assembly.
Board Validation & Linux Operations:
Flash firmware, test and validate circuit boards using Linux-based tools and electrical probes, pull logs, document results, and troubleshoot failures before hardware shipment.
Hardware Diagnostics:
Diagnose electrical and circuit-level issues using multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, bench power supplies, and laboratory test equipment.
Inventory & Lab Maintenance:
Maintain accurate inventory records for components, circuit boards, and assemblies while keeping the lab organized and ready for builds.
Experience & Qualifications Experience Level:
5+ years of hands-on electrical technician experience.
Fine-Pitch Soldering:
Proven, precise fine-pitch and surface-mount (SMD) soldering and rework skills (diagnosing cold joints, lifting/replacing components without damaging boards).
Linux Command Line:
Comfort navigating Linux CLI, executing test/flashing scripts, and retrieving system logs.
Debugging Toolbox:
Proficient using multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and bench power supplies for circuit-level troubleshooting.
Wiring & Schematics:
Experience fabricating wiring harnesses, crimping connectors, and reading complex electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
Target Backgrounds:
Autonomous Vehicles, Automotive/Aerospace OEMs, Robotics, or R&D Prototyping labs.
Education:
Community college coursework, trade certification, or Associate degree preferred, but 5+ years of practical lab/bench experience is the primary requirement. Preferred Experience Prior experience in Autonomous Vehicle (AV) or Aerospace environments. Trade certification or formal technical training in electronics. Familiarity with hardware testing procedures and embedded hardware interfaces.
Pay:
$30.28 - $36.46 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
Work Location:
In person
