AUDIOVISUAL FIELD ENGINEER
Pentegra Systems - A Mechdyne Company Naperville, IL
  • Full-Time
  • Salary + Performance Incentives Build what's next.
See technology come alive. At Pentegra Systems , a Mechdyne company, we design and deliver audiovisual, collaboration, network infrastructure, and telecom solutions that make complex spaces work beautifully. As our next Audiovisual (AV) Field Engineer , you'll be at the center of turning ideas into reality—partnering with sales, project managers, and field teams to design, support, and bring cutting-edge AV systems to life. This role is perfect for someone who loves blending technical know-how with hands-on execution , enjoys variety, and takes pride in seeing a project through from concept to completion. If you enjoy solving puzzles, building elegant solutions, and being the go-to technical expert others rely on—we would love you to apply. Why You'll Love Being on Our Team We don't have employees — we have teammates . Mechdyne has been Enabling Discovery for more than 30 years, and the NSCA recognized us with an Excellence in Business Award for Talent Development . That award isn't on our wall by accident — it's because we genuinely invest in the people who choose to build a career here.
  • Our people are #1. Treat each other well, expect a lot, and good things follow. It's literally written into our core values.
  • Open-door culture. From the CEO to your new buddy on day one, people here are approachable, friendly, and happy to help.
  • Mentorship that's real. Every new teammate is paired with a mentor in their department to help you find your footing and grow your career.
  • Strengths-based growth. We align your goals with what you're naturally great at — and build from there.
  • Creativity is encouraged. Challenge complacency. Pitch the better way. Bring the new idea. We listen.
  • Meaningful work. You'll work on projects for schools, government agencies, enterprise clients, and organizations doing important work — the kind of projects you'll actually want to tell your family about.
  • Work hard, play hard.
Social events, annual family picnic, holiday celebrations, award trips (past winners have gone to Punta Cana), wellness rewards, and gift cards for staying active. What You'll Do As an AV Field Engineer , you'll be a key technical contributor throughout the lifecycle of projects—before and after the sale. You'll help design solutions, support installations, and ensure systems perform exactly as intended.
A typical week might include:
  • Collaborating with sales and clients to understand needs and translate them into thoughtful AV system designs.
  • Designing solutions that align with project scope and client goals, including drawings, documentation, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Reviewing construction drawings and specifications to ensure system requirements are met.
  • Participating in design reviews—offering recommendations that improve performance, reliability, and usability.
  • Supporting project turnover and partnering with project managers and field teams to ensure nothing gets lost in translation.
  • Assisting with staging, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and final sign-off of systems.
  • Configuring and setting up AV hardware and system components—sometimes in the shop, sometimes on-site.
  • Providing technical guidance to installers and answering questions throughout the build.
  • Helping improve design standards, documentation, and processes that make future projects even better.
  • Continuing to learn new technologies and sharing that knowledge with the team. No two days are exactly the same—and that's exactly how we like it. Who We Think You Might Be We've written this list on purpose so it doesn't read like a wall of requirements. If you see yourself in most of these, please apply — even if you don't check every single box. We'll teach you the rest.
  • You enjoy solving technical problems and making systems work seamlessly.
  • You can take a client's needs and translate them into a clear, functional design.
  • You're organized enough to manage multiple projects without losing the details that matter.
  • You communicate well—with sales teams, field technicians, project managers, and clients.
  • You like working as part of a team and take pride in shared success.
  • You're curious about technology—AV, collaboration tools, control systems, networking, or related areas.
  • You're comfortable using everyday tools like Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and OneNote (we'll help you learn anything else).
  • You bring a positive attitude and value honesty, integrity, and treating people well. Formal education or specific certifications? Nice to have, but not required. We'll provide OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety certification, vendor training, and continued learning opportunities. What matters most is how you think, how you treat people, and how eager you are to grow. Your First Six Months
  • Complete onboarding and get to know teammates across Pentegra and Mechdyne.
  • Build familiarity with our AV systems, standards, tools, and workflows.
  • Support live projects alongside experienced engineers and project teams.
  • Begin owning designs, documentation, and technical support for assigned projects.
  • Contribute ideas to improve processes, standards, and the client experience.
The Package Base salary range:
$80,000 - $100,000 (commensurate with experience), plus performance incentives and a comprehensive benefits package, including: Multiple healthcare plan options, dental coverage, and fitness reimbursement. Wellness rewards—earn gift cards for staying active and healthy. 401(k) program. Company-paid life insurance and disability coverage. Paid vacation, company-paid holidays, personal days, and parental leave. Recognition programs including Above & Beyond awards, Gold Card recognition, annual awards, and incentive trips. Annual summer picnic, regular socials, and family-friendly events. Relocation assistance for the right candidate—let's talk. Where You'll Be This role is based out of our Pentegra Systems office at 1400 Shore Road, Naperville, IL 60563 . Expect roughly 15-25% travel for client visits, trade shows, conferences, and occasional vendor training — enough to keep things interesting, without living on the road. Our Core Values (We Live These)
  • Honesty & Integrity in everything we do.
  • Our People are #1 — treat each other well, expect a lot, and good things follow.
  • Contribution to the communities in which we live.
  • Excellence in the 4 P's — Positive Attitude, Proactiveness, Process, Performance.
  • Profit & Growth as the means that make everything else possible.
