Generator Technician

Job Summary The Generator Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on generator systems and related mechanical and electrical equipment. This role supports both shop and field operations, with an opportunity to begin in the shop to gain hands-on experience with equipment before transitioning to field service work. Key Responsibilities Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance on generators ranging from 20kW to 2000kW . Service mechanical, electrical, and diesel-powered equipment, including generators, HVAC systems, air compressors, and dehumidification units. Remove, replace, and service battery packs, engines, controllers, and associated electrical components. Conduct and repair load bank testing to ensure generator performance and reliability. Diagnose and resolve complex electrical and mechanical issues using hand tools and test equipment. Operate and service dehumidification equipment, including systems from CDI and Munters . Work with motor control systems, including VFDs, VSDs, soft starts, and across-the-line starters . Maintain accurate service documentation and comply with safety and operational standards. Required Skills & Experience Strong experience in generator maintenance and repair . Advanced mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills. Working knowledge of diesel engines, generators, and commercial HVAC equipment. Advanced understanding of electrical engines, control systems, and controllers. EPA Certification with strong knowledge of refrigeration systems. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Ability to work independently in shop and field service environments. Preferred Qualifications Factory or formal training in diesel engines, generators, compressors, or HVAC systems. Experience in field service or mobile technician roles. Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs and load bank operations. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Jessup, MD. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $38.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
