Job Description
The Field Service Technician is a critical member of the TGW Lifetime Services (LTS) team, responsible for supporting an existing customer base through the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of material handling systems. This is a travel-based role that focuses on maximizing equipment uptime and customer satisfaction by delivering high-quality technical service across conveyor systems, shuttles, cranes, AS/RS, and related equipment. In addition to field support, the technician contributes to training, root cause analysis, remote troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform on-site installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of material handling equipment, ensuring optimal system performance and uptime. Evaluate customer equipment conditions, including preventive maintenance practices, spare parts inventory, and operator competency; provide recommendations for improvements and additional services. Document all service activities in detailed reports, including issue identification, root cause analysis, and corrective actions; escalate barriers to resolution as needed. Provide remote and on-site technical support through hotline services, including troubleshooting via phone, VPN, or emergency site visits. Deliver training to customers and colleagues, both formally and informally, to enhance equipment knowledge, operational effectiveness, and best practices. Conduct service work in a cost-conscious manner while maintaining high standards of quality and customer service. Coordinate travel and maintain communication with LTS Account Management regarding service activities, schedules, and on-site status updates. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education:
Bachelor's degree or technical degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Controls Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience.
Experience:
3-5 years of electro-mechanical troubleshooting and repair experience, preferably with material handling systems (conveyors, AS/RS, etc.)
Travel:
Ability and willingness to travel 80-100%, often with short notice. Skills & Abilities Proficiency in troubleshooting electro-mechanical systems Familiarity with PLC programming platforms (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Rockwell, Beckhoff) Strong communication skills with the ability to build customer confidence and explain technical concepts clearly Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook) Ability to learn new technologies, systems, and industry practices quickly Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive, customer-focused approach Ability to operate forklifts, scissor lifts, and other heavy industrial equipment, with appropriate training and certification Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk around industrial and/or warehouse environment for prolonged periods of time. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at a time. Ability to operate computers, tablets, phones, and other electronic devices. Visual and auditory abilities to work safely with and around moving and/or motorized equipment, machinery, parts, and electricity that require safety protocols Ability to move and use muscles for extended periods of time without fatigue. Ability to climb ladders, bend, or crawl into awkward spaces. Ability to communicate regularly with others verbally and in writing. Ability to tolerate exposure to job site temperature fluctuations due to seasonal weather in geographic region.
