Position Overview:
Shen Milsom & Wilke is pleased to announce an opportunity for a dedicated and results-oriented Audiovisual Design Associate to join our dynamic team in our San Francisco, CA office. In this role, you will play a crucial part in delivering integrated design solutions that enhance user experiences across various projects. You will collaborate with our team of AV, Security, IT, Medical Equipment Planning, and Acoustical engineers to deliver client-focused consultancy services in conceptual designs for audiovisual and multimedia control systems. Your expertise will directly contribute to our mission of pushing the boundaries of possibilities. SM&W has a hybrid work policy. This position requires three days in the office or on a project site and permits two days remote. We are seeking candidates who live in the San Francisco, CA region or nearby areas. Responsibilities Responsible for Audiovisual design, including all phases of the design and coordination from brief, conceptual/technical/detailed design through to construction administration and in use. Serve as a technical and client facing resource on assigned projects, developing a thorough understanding of client requirements, operational needs, project goals, and design criteria. Assist with the development of audiovisual system designs for complex projects across multiple market sectors, including commercial, education, healthcare, government, hospitality, and other specialized environments. Develop comprehensive audiovisual system specifications, equipment lists, drawings, narratives, cost estimates, and other technical documentation for audio, video, control, collaboration, conferencing, and related technology systems. Coordinate audiovisual system requirements with architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, technology vendors, and other members of the project team to ensure successful integration into the overall building design. Conduct site surveys, existing conditions assessments, feasibility studies, client programming sessions, and field observations. Develop and manage project schedules, design budgets, deliverables, and technical resources while ensuring adherence to project scope, client requirements, and SM&W quality standards. Review drawings, specifications, product submittals, shop drawings, and other technical documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements. Monitor project scope, budgets, additional services, and financial performance in coordination with project leadership and Accounting. Identify potential scope changes and additional services and communicate them appropriately to project leadership and clients. Maintain strong client relationships and represent SM&W professionally during client meetings, design presentations, project coordination meetings, and industry events. Present technical recommendations, design concepts, and proposed solutions clearly to clients and project stakeholders. Participate in the training and development of team members and contribute technical knowledge through internal training and education initiatives. Stay current with audiovisual technologies, manufacturers, industry standards, emerging trends, and applicable codes and best practices. Support SM&W's multidisciplinary approach by developing a working knowledge of the firm's other consulting disciplines and identifying opportunities for integrated solutions. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Design, Architecture, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of relevant audiovisual consulting, design, engineering, integration, or related professional experience. Demonstrated experience independently in audiovisual projects through multiple phases of design and construction. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, schedules, and deliverables simultaneously. Strong understanding of audiovisual/multimedia systems and technologies. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit).
CTS, CTS D, CTS
I, or other relevant AVIXA certifications are preferred. Familiarity with project management principles is a plus.
