$85,000 - $95,000 base Job Overview BSU takes on the complex, high-stakes PCBA builds other contract manufacturers turn away — that means the defects you're chasing down often don't have a textbook answer, and the standards you're holding the floor to are frequently military or government-grade. We're looking for a Quality Engineer to own process quality across production: driving root-cause investigations, shaping inspection standards, and working shoulder-to-shoulder with production and engineering to make sure every assembly that leaves our floor exceeds what the customer — and the standard — asked for. This is a hands-on role, not a paperwork role. You'll be on the floor doing first-article inspections and in-process audits, in the weeds on CAPA when something goes wrong, and mentoring inspectors and assemblers on workmanship in real time. Responsibilities Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) for production non-conformances. Develop, review, and maintain quality plans, control plans, and inspection procedures. Drive continuous improvement using data from defect tracking and process audits. Perform and oversee first-article inspections (FAI) and in-process quality audits. Interpret and apply
IPC-A-610, IPC
J-STD-001, and applicable military/government standards. Partner with engineering and supply chain on component qualification and supplier quality. Support internal and customer-facing quality reviews and audits. Mentor quality inspectors and assemblers directly on the floor on workmanship standards. Required Qualifications Must be a U.S. Person as defined under ITAR (22 CFR § 120.62) — U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual. 3+ years of quality engineering experience in electronics or PCB assembly manufacturing. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Electronics Technology, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on manufacturing quality experience. Hands-on, working knowledge of IPC-A-610 and
IPC J-STD-001.
Experience with SMT, through-hole, and box-build assembly processes.
Proficiency with quality tools:
8D, FMEA, SPC, fishbone, and process audits. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, and assembly documentation. Strong written and verbal communication skills.

IPC J-STD-001?
Have you personally performed first-article inspections (FAI) or led CAPA/root-cause investigations on production non-conformances? Do you have direct hands-on experience with at least one of the following: SMT, through-hole, or box-build assembly? This is an on-site, full-time role in Austin, TX. Are you able to work on-site five days a week? Briefly describe the most complex non-conformance you've root-caused — what was the defect, and how did you confirm the corrective action actually worked?
