Electronic Security Systems Engineer Purpose:
Valkyrie Enterprises has an immediate need for an Electronic Security Systems Engineer to support the design, integration, and lifecycle management of enterprise-level Electronic Security Systems (ESS) supporting U.S. Government facilities and programs. Position is in Norfolk, VA.
Job Description:
The Electronic Security Systems Engineer applies advanced engineering principles to the design, integration, and sustainment of electronic security systems supporting federal facilities and critical infrastructure. The Electronic Security Systems Engineer serves as the technical lead for system architecture, integration planning, and engineering oversight for complex security systems including access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, and alarm monitoring systems. This position provides technical leadership and guidance to Engineering Technicians and Field Technicians, ensuring systems are designed, integrated, and deployed in accordance with government standards and program requirements.
Typical responsibilities include:
System Engineering & Design Develop system architectures for integrated electronic security systems Design access control, intrusion detection, video surveillance, and alarm monitoring systems Produce system design packages including drawings, schematics, and system diagrams Develop equipment specifications and bill of materials Ensure compliance with applicable government standards and regulations Perform system capacity and performance analysis Integration & Technical Oversight Lead system integration efforts involving multiple security subsystems Oversee configuration and integration of security platforms and network infrastructure Validate interoperability between access control, IDS, video management, and monitoring systems Provide engineering support during installation and commissioning Support troubleshooting of complex system-level issues Technical Leadership Provide technical direction to Engineering Technicians and Electronics Technicians Review installation work and technical documentation for accuracy Support development of test procedures and system acceptance plans Participate in system commissioning and acceptance testing Provide subject matter expertise during system upgrades and modernization efforts Program Support Coordinate with government stakeholders, program managers, and installation personnel Support design reviews, engineering change proposals, and system upgrades Prepare engineering reports, technical documentation, and design packages Support facility security assessments and system modernization planning Typical Systems Electronic Security Systems Engineer personnel typically support integrated systems including: Access Control Systems (ACS) Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) Video Surveillance / Video Management Systems (CCTV / VMS) Alarm Monitoring Systems Intercom and Communications Systems Duress and emergency notification systems IP-based networked security infrastructure Integrated command and control platforms
Qualifications:
Must have a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical field Must have at least 6-10 years of experience in electronic security systems engineering, design, or integration may be used in lieu of a degree Must have minimum 4 years of experience in electronic security systems engineering, design, or integration Must have experience designing or integrating large-scale electronic security systems Must have a strong understanding of integrated security system architectures Must have the ability to interpret and develop electrical schematics and system diagrams Must have knowledge of networked IP-based systems and infrastructure Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills Desired Qualifications Professional Engineer (PE) license (preferred but not required) Experience supporting federal or defense security programs such as US Army Corps of Engineers, Naval Information Warfare Center, US Air Force and Department of State, preferred. Knowledge of applicable security system standards including: Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) for Electronic Security Systems DoD physical security requirements UL 2050 or other high-security facility standards Experience with enterprise-level security platforms, such as: Lenel OnGuard Milestone XProtect AMAG Symmetry Software House C•CURE Hirsch Velocity Genetec Security Center Experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams Security Requirements Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance Must be a U.S. Citizen Must possess a valid Driver's License Travel Requirements Travel requirements vary by program and may include domestic and/or international travel in support of system installation, commissioning, and engineering assessments. Physical Requirements Ability to access secure facilities and construction areas Ability to inspect equipment installations and system infrastructure Occasional lifting of equipment up to 40-50 lbs Ability to work in both office and field environments Valkyrie strictly adheres to a policy of equal employment opportunity. Pay Range:
