Basic Qualifications
The Role:
The Sr Avionics Lab Engineer role will be part of the electrical engineering hardware development team designing Amazon Leo's satellite electronic sub-systems. Successful candidates will have prior work experience in the space/aerospace industry working hands-on with early electronic designs, prototypes, and test fixtures. You should be comfortable with a high degree of ambiguity and relish the idea of solving problems that haven't been solved at scale before. Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Key job responsibilities The EE Avionics Dev team key job responsibilities are as follows:- Adhere to ESD sensitive hardware safety protocols.
- Perform fine pitch component rework/modification/repair on complex printed circuit boards (PCBA).
- Perform first article PCBA inspection and polymeric inspection.
- Follow detailed work instruction and obtain clarity when difficult to determine engineering intent.
- Interpret schematics and data sheets.
- Document work performed and report discrepancies through proper channels.
- Monitor work ticket Kanban and shift work priority when requested to align with program demand.
- Support electronic hardware validation testing using engineering work instruction and common electronic test equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, function generators, etc.)
- Support failure analysis and root cause identification related requests.
- Support hardware bring-up, hardware debug, electrical diagnostics, environmental test set-up, reliability testing, and space environment simulation testing.
- Procure and maintain lab consumable stock.
- Maintain lab toolboxes and specialized lab equipment.
- Maintain personal workspace and EE Avionics lab to
ANSI/ESD S20.20-2021
standard. A day in the life The EE Avionics Dev team supports Amazon Leo's Electrical Engineering department. The team works closely with electrical engineers designing and testing early satellite subsystem prototypes and test hardware. Each team members is provided a personal desk located in the Avionics Lab kitted with precision soldering and microscope equipment. Work is received through an electronic issue tracking program. Often, work is emergent/unplanned with a high degree of ambiguity. This requires direct interaction with engineers to deliver working satellite prototypes. Team work hours align with engineering working hours and adjusts to meet program demand when required. About the team The EE Avionics Dev team is based out of Redmond Washington. Each team member maintains multiple IPC certifications and receives technical training in order to operate and maintain precision automated equipment. The EE Avionics Dev team holds to a high quality bar and routinely delivers error free workmanship to internal customers. The teams technical skill and lab capabilities are essential to providing engineers with a quick-turn service to unblock critical test gating design release to Amazon Leo production.Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of hardware development, test lab, space/aerospace maintenance or hands-on engineering environment experience
- 5+ years of electrical theory, robotics, controls components, and automated equipment experience
- 5+ years hands-on experience performing PCBA rework/modification/repair down to 0402 component size
- Lift, carry, or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds twice a month.
- Experience in new hardware product development
- Degree or certificate in related field
- Certification in IPC-J-STD, IPC-7711/7721, IPC-620 and IPC-610
- A&P license
- Experience in development of space-based systems
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently
- Proven track record of delivering results on time
- Electrical safety training
- Ability to use common electronics test equipment and precision hand tools.
- Experience using software system databases, communication services (i.e., Jira, Slack), and Microsoft office suite
- Experience sourcing lab supplies and components
