Job Description

Job Description Academic Technologies, a unit within the Office of Academic Strategy & Affairs, has an outstanding opportunity for an AV Integration Specialist to join their team. About this Opportunity Reporting to the Assistant Director for Academic Technologies, this position provides professional audiovisual system integration and technical expertise in support of the university's AV technology infrastructure. This includes hands-on trade work in active commercial construction environments, as well as the installation, configuration, and replacement of AV systems in both new construction and existing campus buildings as part of the AV technology life cycle. The position also contributes to Tier III technical support and provides responsive, high-quality service to faculty, staff, students, and campus visitors using instructional spaces across the Seattle campus. This is an opportunity to join the AV integration team of a well-established design/build department focused on learning environments and campus facilities technology. Academic Technologies is seeking a highly responsible and motivated professional with expertise in AV/IT integration, Biamp DSP programming, and construction-based system installation. The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience in the full range of AV integration work: equipment rack fabrication, site preparation, signal termination, system calibration, implementation of control systems such as Crestron, and code deployment and debugging. A problem-solving mindset, strong communication skills, and customer-centric approach are essential for success in this role. This full-time position is 100% onsite. Key Responsibilities 60% - AV System Integration and Commissioning Collaborate with the installation team to efficiently execute AV integration projects across new construction, renovations and the current general assignment classroom portfolio. Maintain a Washington State 06 Limited Energy Electrical License or obtain a Specialty Electrician Trainee Certificate, performing all work in compliance with applicable electrical codes. Apply for permits and coordinate inspections as needed. Install, program, and commission AV systems including Biamp DSPs, Crestron/Extron control systems, video switching hardware, flat-panel displays, projection systems, and low-voltage lighting controls. Validate systems through testing and calibration to ensure performance and quality standards are met. Interface with project stakeholders including consultants, designers, vendors, general contractors, and electricians. 10% - Design Review and Documentation Review and interpret AV design documents, including drawings, specifications, equipment lists, and signal flow diagrams. Contribute to the development of as-built documentation, rack elevations, patch panel layouts, and control system schematics. Create bills of materials and coordinate with procurement to ensure timely delivery of components. 10% - Project Planning and Consultation Participate in early project phases by conducting needs assessments with faculty, staff, and administrators. Help establish technology requirements for general assignment classrooms and other campus spaces. Provide technical input during planning, assist with scope development, and apply project management methodologies to support project execution. 10% - Tier III Technical Support and Troubleshooting Serve as a senior technical resource for diagnosing and resolving complex AV system issues, including audio, video, control, and network-related problems. Provide root cause analysis, assist with incident response, and support the transition of newly installed systems to operational teams. Debug and deploy updates to DSP and control system code as required. 5% - System Updates and Maintenance Install and maintain system software including firmware, operating systems, AV device drivers, and security patches for AV components and systems. 5% - Training and Knowledge Transfer Provide training and support to faculty, staff, and internal technical teams. Assist with knowledge transfer, system orientation, and operational handoffs for newly deployed AV systems. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree, preferably in educational technologies or related field. Minimum 3 years of work experience, to include experience in programming Audio DSP platforms and experience installing and debugging of control system platforms and related programming code (e.g., Crestron) Applicants who do not meet these qualifications

Additional Qualifications Ability to perform all tasks associated with the installation of commercial audio and video equipment; Demonstrated teamwork experience, including the ability to work with minimum supervision and be self-directed both independently and as part of a team; Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively interpret and discuss technology issues with colleagues, students, staff and faculty in positions across the university with varying degrees of expertise and technical knowledge; Ability, skill and initiative to problem solve, assume responsibility, and establish and maintain quality standards. Ability to stay organized, with the skill to prioritize, pivot, and manage competing priorities to meet deadlines and complete all assigned tasks; Demonstrated ability to analyze work processes and introduce appropriate technological solutions for greater efficiency of operations; Demonstrated excellence in customer service, user liaison, personal interaction and communication in a demand-based, service-oriented environment; Demonstrated attention to detail, including excellent written communication skills and technical documentation skills for creating policy and technical documents Preferred Qualifications 4+ years of experience in programming Audio DSP platforms and installing and debugging of control system platforms and related programming code. Demonstrated experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Crestron NVX AV-over-IP systems, including video distribution, network configuration, and device registration. Current Washington State 06 Low Voltage Electrician License. Strong knowledge of IP addressing, switching technologies, and IP-based digital AV distribution systems. Strong background working with Biamp, Crestron DMPS, DM and NVX is highly desirable. Current Washington State driver's license Successful completion of AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) certification required within six months of employment. Working Environment Ability to work in a variety of environments, including open office areas, cold shell/warm shell construction sites, ladders and lifts, and tight spaces such as crawlspaces, equipment closets, and under-floor access. Must be able to safely lift/move and carry up to 45 lbs of AV equipment and tools and perform physical tasks such as bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, and fine manipulation. Must be willing to adjust work hours as needed. While standard hours are Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., this position may require extended hours to meet academic calendar deadlines. May required to report to work remotely when UW suspends operations. Position is on call 24/7 as needed, resolution could be remote or on campus depending on issue.
