Site Safety Manager / Construction Manager Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Energy Marshal to support the construction and commissioning of a large-scale data center project. The Energy Marshal will serve as the primary authority for hazardous energy control, ensuring the safe management of electrical, mechanical and stored energy systems throughout construction, along with testing, commissioning, and turnover activities. This position plays a critical role in preventing incidents during energization activities by coordinating Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) programs, overseeing energy isolation procedures, and ensuring compliance with project-specific safety requirements, OSHA regulations, and client standards. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and enforce the site's Energy Isolation and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Program.
- Review and approve energy isolation plans for electrical, mechanical, and critical infrastructure systems.
- Coordinate energization activities involving: o Medium
- and low-voltage electrical systems o Switchgear and substations o UPS systems o Backup generators o Mechanical cooling systems o Building automation and control systems
- Verify that all hazardous energy sources are properly isolated prior to maintenance, testing, or commissioning activities.
- Maintain site-wide energy isolation logs, permits, and tracking systems.
- Conduct field inspections and audits to ensure compliance with project energy control procedures.
- Lead coordination meetings as required involving contractors, commissioning agents, and operations personnel.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all planned energizations and de-energizations.
- Stop work when unsafe conditions or violations of energy control procedures are identified.
- Investigate energy-related incidents, near misses, and procedural violations.
- Support commissioning and turnover activities to ensure safe transition from construction to operations. Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in construction safety, electrical systems, commissioning, or energy control.
- Safety and or Energy controls Experience working on data center, mission-critical, industrial, utility, or large commercial construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of: o OSHA Lockout/Tagout requirements (29 CFR 1910.
147) o
NFPA 70E
Electrical Safety in the Workplace o Energized electrical work practices o Commissioning and startup procedures
- Ability to read and interpret: o One-line diagrams o Electrical schematics o Mechanical drawings o P&IDs
- Strong communication and documentation skills. Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification.
NFPA 70E
Training.
- Electrical trade background (Electrician, Electrical Foreman, Commissioning Technician, etc.).
- CHST, CSP, CUSP, or equivalent safety certification.
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
- Previous experience supporting hyperscale data center projects. Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk active construction sites for extended periods.
- Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and access elevated work areas.
- Ability to wear required PPE, including arc-flash-rated clothing when necessary.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
