Position Overview The Energy Rater ensures that multifamily construction projects meet the highest standards of energy efficiency and green building certification programs. This role involves on-site inspections, diagnostic testing, and collaboration with project teams to identify areas for improvement and maintain compliance with standards like
HERS, ENERGY
STAR, LEED, and more. The ideal candidate is motivated, detail-oriented, and eager to grow professionally in the green building industry. Key Responsibilities Evaluate construction sites for compliance with energy efficiency standards, including HERS and other green building certification programs. Conduct diagnostic field tests, such as blower door and duct leakage testing, to measure building performance. Prepare HERS energy models and ensure accuracy in data collection and analysis. Draft clear and concise reports summarizing inspection results, identifying deficiencies, and recommending corrective actions. Organize and maintain all required documentation for certification and third-party audits. Provide training and support to subcontractors and construction teams to help them meet energy performance requirements and certifications. Collaborate with contractors, developers, and other stakeholders to set inspection schedules, communicate program expectations, and troubleshoot issues. Travel regularly within a 60-90-mile radius for site inspections, meetings, and fieldwork. Role Expectations The Energy Rater is expected to be a proactive contributor to the success of projects by ensuring compliance with energy efficiency and green building requirements. Inspectors will work hands-on in the field and play a key role in maintaining quality assurance throughout the construction process. Key expectations include delivering accurate and timely inspection results, building strong relationships with project stakeholders, consistently adhering to quality assurance protocols, and identifying opportunities for energy performance improvements and driving solutions. Success in this role means producing reliable work, fostering collaboration, and continuously improving your technical skills while contributing to the company's mission to create better buildings. High school diploma or equivalent required. Trade school education, an Associate degree, or relevant certifications are preferred but not required. At least 2 years of experience in construction, energy efficiency, or a related field. Familiarity with HERS ratings, ENERGY STAR certifications, or other green building programs is preferred. Valid U.S. driver's license with a clean driving record. Authorization to work in the United States.
