Overview Abacus Technology is seeking a Sr. Communications/Navigation Engineer to provide technical support at Wright-Patterson AFB. This is a full-time position. Responsibilities Assist with technical requirements compliance pertaining to avionics development, test, sustainment, and operations including navigation, voice communication systems, Line of Sight (LOS) and Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS) data link systems, military and civilian communication networks, network protocols, IPSec, SOAP/XML packaging of network commands and air data systems to include performance, integrity, and airworthiness. Evaluate technical documents, determine sufficiency for demonstrating compliance with specification and airworthiness, summarize findings, recommend changes, and communicate all results to the program office. Apply an understanding of DoD, AF, and common engineering/scientific principles, processes, and procedures to improve the performance and sustainability of existing and future AF and joint service weapon systems. Understand and execute Air Force Policy Directive (AFPD) 62-6, USAF Airworthiness, associated AFIs and Airworthiness Bulletins through standardized processes and issuance of flight authorizations. Assist in translating user requirements into weapons system requirements, which will be used to design, develop, fabricate, test, and evaluate weapons systems, subsystems, and equipment for eventual fielding and deployment. Qualifications 15+ years experience in communications engineering including at least 5 years supporting DoD programs. Bachelor's degree in a related field. Able to apply an understanding of DoD, AF, and common engineering/scientific principles, processes, and procedures to improve performance and sustainability of existing and future AF and joint service weapon systems. Must understand how to apply
MIL-HDBK-16C
Airworthiness Certification Criteria, to aircraft systems and subsystems. Experience working on each stage of the system development life cycle from initiation through deployment/sustainment. Demonstrated proficiency with process modeling and developing workflow diagrams. Able to elicit and interpret requirements and translate to technical specifications/system design following best practices and design patterns. Able to communicate with management, technical staff, and end users in a clear and professional manner. Experience with engineering practices, techniques, and standards. Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to develop and present technical presentations. Able to represent complex data in diagrams or through other techniques that communicate precise information to both business and technical staff. Proven ability to understand the strategic and tactical approach to projects and handle multiple projects concurrently. Must be a US citizen and hold a current Secret clearance.
