Position OverviewThe Chief Engineer directs all aspects of Engineering operations, including preventive maintenance, repairs, life safety, energy management, asset protection, and capital projects. This role provides leadership to the Engineering team while working closely with the General Manager and hotel leadership to meet operational, financial, and brand standards.
This position manages the Engineering department, oversees budgets and capital planning, ensures regulatory compliance, and plays a key role in positioning AC Hotel Pasadena as a market leader. Key Responsibilities Guest Experience Ensure prompt, high-quality response to guest maintenance needs Resolve guest concerns professionally to maintain high satisfaction scores Maintain service standards including appearance, guest interaction, and professionalism Review service metrics and implement improvement strategies Leadership & Human Resources Recruit, hire, train, develop, and retain a skilled Engineering team Communicate performance standards and foster a positive, harassment-free workplace Conduct performance and salary reviews in accordance with company guidelines Coach, counsel, discipline, and terminate staff as needed following company policy Financial & Asset Management Develop and manage the Engineering budget, business plan, and capital expenditures Control labor, maintenance, and energy costs within budget Negotiate vendor and maintenance contracts Oversee renovations, repairs, and capital projects from scope to completion Ensure accurate tracking and protection of all hotel assets Life Safety & Risk Management Direct emergency preparedness programs, inspections, drills, and training Ensure compliance with all safety, fire, health, and environmental regulations Promote accident prevention and safe work practices Coordinate with local authorities, fire departments, and insurance agencies Operations & Preventive Maintenance Conduct daily property walks to identify and address issues Ensure preventive maintenance programs are effective and up to date Inspect Engineering spaces, equipment, and inventory regularly Investigate and report incidents and accidents Communication & Administration Maintain clear, professional communication across all departments Conduct regular Engineering team meetings Complete required corporate, property, and government reporting accurately and on time Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, and special projects as assigned Qualifications Proven experience as a Chief Engineer or Senior Engineering leader in hospitality Strong knowledge of building systems, preventive maintenance, and life safety Budgeting, capital planning, and vendor management experience Familiarity with brand standards and local/state/federal regulations Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays Why Join AC Hotel Pasadena?
