GENERAL PURPOSE
Energy Fuels is seeking a highly experienced Health & Safety Professional. The Vice President, Corporate Health & Safety is responsible for developing, leading, and executing the company's global health and safety strategy across all operations. This leader will drive a culture of safety excellence, ensure regulatory compliance, and embed risk management practices across mining, processing, and corporate environments. This role requires a visible, hands-on leader who partners closely with operations to proactively reduce risk, improve performance metrics, and reinforce a "zero harm" culture in a complex, multi-site mining organization. This role is critical to protecting the company's people, license to operate, and long-term value. The VP, Corporate Health & Safety will play a central role in shaping operational excellence, risk management, and corporate reputation in a highly regulated industry. This position is based in Energy Fuels' Lakewood, Colorado office and requires regular in-office collaboration with executive leadership and business teams.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership Develop and implement a comprehensive, enterprise-wide health & safety strategy aligned with corporate objectives Establish long-term safety vision, goals, and KPIs (TRIR, LTIR, near misses, leading indicators, etc.) Serve as a key advisor to executive leadership and the Board on safety risk and performance Lead crisis management and incident response strategy at the corporate level Lead the integration of digital technology and data analytics into the company's safety strategy Evaluate and deploy emerging technologies (wearables, IoT sensors, AI-enabled monitoring) to enhance risk identification and prevention Position the H&S function as a driver of operational innovation and safety culture not just compliance Operational Excellence Partner with site leadership to drive consistent safety performance across all operations Standardize safety programs, procedures, and management systems across sites Implement leading practices in hazard identification, risk mitigation, and behavioral safety Ensure integration of safety into operational planning, capital projects, and contractor management Leverage predictive analytics and machine learning to identify leading indicators and anticipate incidents Oversee deployment of real-time monitoring systems and digital dashboards for safety-critical operations Ensure safety integration into automation, remote operations, and autonomous systems as the company adopts new technologies Regulatory Compliance & Governance Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including MSHA, OSHA, and international standards (if applicable) Oversee audits, inspections, and regulatory interactions Maintain enterprise safety governance frameworks and reporting structures Provide regular reporting to executive leadership and Board committees Culture & Capability Building Champion a strong safety culture rooted in accountability, leadership, and employee engagement Design and deploy training and leadership development programs related to safety Lead initiatives that promote workforce participation, including safety committees and field engagement Drive continuous improvement through data analytics and lessons learned Embed contemporary safety thinking alongside traditional compliance approaches Build digital literacy within the H&S team to leverage technology effectively Foster psychological safety as a foundation for open reporting and learning Incident Management & Risk Mitigation Oversee investigation of serious incidents and near-misses Ensure root cause analysis and corrective actions are effectively implemented Identify enterprise-level risks and implement mitigation strategies Lead enterprise emergency preparedness and response planning Team Leadership Build, lead, and develop a high-performing corporate and site-based H&S team Establish clear expectations, accountability, and performance management processes Foster collaboration between corporate and site safety functions Technology & Innovation Drive adoption of safety technology including wearables, proximity detection, fatigue monitoring, and environmental sensors Evaluate AI and computer vision applications for hazard recognition and behavioral observation Oversee digital transformation of safety reporting, investigation, and assurance systems Ensure safety-critical systems are resilient to cyber threats in partnership with IT/OT security Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION
Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field (master's preferred) Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is preferred. 15+ years of progressive health & safety leadership experience 7-10+ years in senior leadership roles within mining, energy, or heavy industry Experience in a public company environment strongly preferred Technical Expertise Deep knowledge of MSHA regulations and mining safety practices Experience with safety management systems (ISO 45001 or equivalent) Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and incident investigation techniques Familiarity with ESG and sustainability reporting related to safety Familiarity with safety technology platforms, data analytics tools, and digital reporting systems Understanding of AI/ML applications in safety and their limitations Awareness of human factors and cognitive science as applied to safety Knowledge of contemporary safety thinking and systems-thinking approaches Leadership Competencies Executive presence with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization Proven ability to drive cultural change in complex, decentralized environments Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities Excellent communication skills, including Board-level reporting Curiosity and openness to emerging technology and new ways of working Ability to translate complex data into actionable insights for operational leaders Comfort operating in ambiguity as the industry undergoes technological transformation
