Job Description:
The Manager plans and directs all mechanical engineering work from product development to production, and ensures all mechanical engineering work, initiatives, and processes meet the requirements set by customers and our internal standards. The manager also assists in proposal, quality assurance, procurement, and manufacturing. The Mechanical Engineering Manager also provides technical guidance to lower-level engineers and drafters. About the Role Essential Job Functions Oversee all mechanical engineering efforts from product development to successful delivery. Responsibilities Manage workload, analyze, and anticipate staffing requirements. Provide recommendations regarding employment, perform employee evaluations, and if necessary, performance counseling. Works with program management to develop cost and schedule baselines and targets. Develop and implement processes that improve efficiency and enhance productivity. Assist in improving the workflows in Product Data Management (PDM). Assist in improving the Configuration Management Plan (CM). Participate in Change Control Boards (CCB). Support proposal development, quality assurance, procurement, and manufacturing. Provide routine status updates/reports to the Director of Engineering, Vice President of Engineering, and Program Managers. Manage customer communication as necessary. Ensure all designs meet internal and external customers' requirements and design standards. Evaluate final product's overall performance, reliability, and safety. Assists in creating production drawings and preparing files for machined parts, sheet metal fabrication, and assemblies. Provides mentoring, leadership, and technical guidance to mechanics and technicians. Routinely communicate with production and manufacturing personnel to improve design and assembly. Participate in equipment and tooling selection and purchasing. Must be capable of safely handling government-furnished equipment and materials. Must be available to work a standard weekly schedule with overtime as required. Performs other duties as required. Qualifications Bachelors' degree or higher in Engineering, Business Administration, or Mechanical Engineering is preferred. Six (6) years of applicable mechanical engineering design experience. Three (3) years of experience in direct management is preferred. Manufacturing experience in machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, and assembly is preferred. Fixed wing and/or rotary wing airframe structural and hydraulic systems experience is a plus. Prior military with aviation maintenance experience is a plus. Working knowledge of 3D scanning equipment and 3D printing is a plus. Required Skills Experience in managing a diverse group of employees. Knowledge of engineering development processes. Must have a working knowledge of AutoCAD and SolidWorks. Must have knowledge of
GD&T, ASME
Y14.100, Y14.5, and
MIL-STD-100G
standards or current equivalent. Knowledge of military land, air, sea, structural, and hydraulic systems. Ability to communicate and interact effectively at all levels in the organization and with customers. Ability to manage multiple projects. Working experience with product Data Management (PDM), product lifecycle management (PLM), and finite element analysis (FEA). Understanding of core concepts, including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials science, etc. Must have knowledge of various fabrication and assembly, including metal machining, sheet metal fabrication, and welding. Knowledge of industry and military specifications for materials, parts, and processes preferred. Must have creativity, innovation, and commitment to excellence with the ability to work in a diverse and fast-paced environment. Must work well in a team environment. Must be eligible to obtain security clearance when required. Must be able to travel. Preferred Skills Prior military with aviation maintenance experience is a plus. Working knowledge of 3D scanning equipment and 3D printing is a plus.
