Job Description

Working conditions: Working conditions may differ between the manufacturing floor and the office environment. You may need to work days, nights, overtime, or weekends, depending on requirements. Occasional travel may be necessary.
Physical requirements:
Occasional need for a presence in the production area Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, and operate Petersen products as required
Requirements:
Position Summary Oversees the design, documentation, and production implementation of approved new products or enhancements to existing products. Ensures product designs, performance, and cost parameters align with project specifications. Assesses design integrity and component selection for appropriate functionality and structural integrity. Develops comprehensive project schedules and development programs, ensuring timely and successful completion. Supervises engineering personnel. Duties and Responsibilities - Include but are not limited to: Designs and approves new products or upgrades to existing ones using SolidWorks software. Manages project priorities and schedules for development and design, ensuring that projects meet or surpass expectations for design, performance, and cost. Maintains responsibility for overall system design and oversees styling, structural integrity, and functional performance of sweeping products. Conducts stress analyses and evaluates material strength. Delegates, organizes, and supervises subordinate projects. Recommends personnel actions such as promotions, transfers, discipline, or terminations according to procedures, and completes performance evaluations for subordinates. Keeps thorough documentation for designs, including 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, generic specifications for purchased parts, complete and accurate Bills of Materials, shipping configurations, long-lead item lists, and product specifications. Provides regular updates on project status, including product performance, specifications, manufacturing details, and other relevant data related to hydraulic and mechanical products. Coordinates prototype production and component procurement, selecting appropriate components and materials for design initiatives. Develops and maintains quality control and R&D testing processes, writing test procedures, instructions, and reports. Supports field testing of new products and assesses their performance for approval or troubleshooting. Communicates progress of test units to Operations, Marketing, and Engineering teams. Offers assistance to customers, end users, and partners with issue or problem resolution. Coaches and mentors engineering team members to support their professional growth. Prepares the Engineering Department's budget and ensures adherence to budgetary guidelines. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's) Experience in manufacturing methods and part design for trucks or related vehicles. Skilled in 3-D construction, layout, assembly, and component drawings. Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic systems; familiar with metal/plastic design techniques and weldment assemblies. Advanced computer skills; proficient in SolidWorks. Able to interpret engineering drawings and technical manuals. Understanding of engineering standards and manufacturing processes. Familiarity with Bill of Materials, configurators, stress analysis, material selection, and sizing. Strong verbal and written communication; able to convey technical instructions.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, or Agricultural Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience. At least 5 years of product design and development experience, preferably with heavy vehicles. Minimum 3 years' supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment. Familiarity with engineering design standards and manufacturing processes.
