(CME) is a 29-year Tampa Bay small business supporting aerospace, defense, industrial, and energy customers with custom engineered and build-to-print products as well as its own product lines. The opportunity Our engineers need an experienced leader they can go to with their technical questions — someone who has solved the hard problems before, enjoys talking engineering, and wants to help a capable team get better. We are hiring a part-time Senior Engineer / Technical Manager to supervise and guide our five-person engineering team, review their work, keep engineering on schedule, and bring consistent engineering discipline to our defense and aerospace programs. You will report directly to Dr. Nancy Crews, our owner. This is a long-term, ongoing role for an accomplished engineer who wants meaningful, flexible part-time work — real technical leadership without a 50-hour management week. What you will do Be the engineering team's go-to technical resource — onsite, available, and practical Supervise CME's five engineers: set priorities with our operations leader, assign work, follow up on commitments, and give feedback Keep engineering work on track to customer delivery schedules and flag schedule risks early Coach engineers through complex electrical and mechanical design, troubleshooting, production, quality, schedule, and customer-related issues Review designs, drawings, calculations, specifications, and BOMs for soundness, manufacturability, and risk Use a practical design-review process and strengthen documentation, configuration, and change control to meet aerospace and defense customer requirements Work with manufacturing, quality, purchasing, and program management to keep engineering decisions aligned with cost, quality, and delivery Attend our Level 10 management meeting every Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. and report engineering priorities, risks, and schedule adherence What we require Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, electromechanical, or manufacturing engineering, or equivalent experience 10+ years of electrical, mechanical, or electromechanical engineering experience Experience supervising, leading, or mentoring engineers Strong command of design for manufacturability, design review, drawings, specifications, and change control Able to work onsite in St. Petersburg, FL, and attend the Wednesday 2:00 p.m. meeting What we prefer Aerospace or defense manufacturing experience, including build-to-print and custom engineered products Familiarity with AS9100, military and aerospace specifications, and
ASME Y14.5 GD&T PE
license or advanced degree Experience in a small or mid-sized manufacturer Schedule and pay 10-15 hours per week, onsite. Hours vary with engineering workload and are set week to week with Dr. Crews. The one fixed commitment is our Level 10 meeting, Wednesdays at 2:00 p.m. $45
  • 55 per hour, depending on experience.
Part-time, hourly W-2 position. 6 paid federal holidays and 3 paid days during our year-end plant shutdown (subject to contract deliverables). No other benefits are offered with this part-time role. Hiring process Résumé review, a phone screen, an onsite interview, and reference checks. All candidates complete the Predictive Index Cognitive and Behavioral Assessments as part of the process. Results are one input among several and are not used as a stand-alone pass/fail screen. Eligibility This position requires access to information and materials subject to U.S. export control regulations (ITAR/EAR). Applicants must qualify as a "U.S. person" under those regulations. "U.S. person" is not limited to U.S. citizens — it also includes U.S. nationals, lawful permanent residents (green card holders), and individuals granted asylum or refugee status. CME, Inc. is a federal contractor and participates in E-Verify. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification documentation upon hire. The Notice of E-Verify Participation and the Right to Work poster are available on request and are posted with our application materials. CME, Inc. is an equal opportunity employer.
