As our structural practice continues to grow, we are seeking an entrepreneurial, collaborative, and technically respected leader to serve as our next Vice President of Structural Services. This role will oversee structural design for buildings and transportation structures across Ayres, as well as our bridge inspection services. In this critical leadership role, you will provide strategic direction and operational leadership for our structural practice while helping shape the future of the firm. You'll lead a diverse team of structural professionals across multiple locations, drive business growth, foster employee development, and ensure the successful delivery of quality projects that meet our clients' needs. The ideal candidate combines deep structural service expertise with a proven ability to lead teams, develop business opportunities, oversee financial performance, and execute strategic growth initiatives.
On Any Given Day, You'll:
Develop and implement an annual business plan for the structural service practice. Collaborate with company leadership to execute divisional and Ayreswide strategic initiatives. Identify and execute on opportunities to expand service offerings, geographic reach, and market share. Monitor industry trends, competitive positioning, and emerging market opportunities. Represent Ayres at industry conferences, professional organizations, and client events to build the firm's brand and visibility. Prepare and manage annual budgets and financial performance metrics. Monitor revenue growth, profitability, backlog, utilization, accounts receivable, and resource planning. Make data-driven decisions that support operational excellence and strategic growth. Oversee workload balancing and resource allocation across teams and offices. Lead, mentor, and inspire a geographically diverse team of structural professionals. Create an environment rooted in collaboration, transparency, respect, innovation, and accountability. Support employee engagement, professional development, succession planning, and career growth. Conduct workforce planning and make strategic hiring recommendations. Facilitate leadership meetings, team meetings, and organizational communication initiatives. Build and maintain positive working relationships across business units and service lines. Required Qualifications Either a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, or a related field, or a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in structural services. Professional Engineer (PE) license or Certified Bridge Inspector (CBI) certification required. Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in structural services, consulting, and leadership. Demonstrated technical expertise and professional recognition within the structural service profession. Proven success leading teams, developing staff, and managing organizational growth. Experience with strategic planning, business development, and client relationship management. Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and project financial management. Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills. Experience managing multiple priorities and delegating responsibilities effectively. Ability and willingness to travel regularly to Ayres offices, clients, and industry events. Valid driver's license with a good driving record. Desired Skills & Experience Experience leading a structural service business unit or discipline group. Proven success growing revenue, profitability, backlog, and market presence. Ability to foster collaboration across disciplines and promote cross-selling throughout an organization. Experience expanding services into new markets, geographies, or client sectors. Experience utilizing performance metrics and data analytics to inform business decisions. Ability to think strategically while remaining engaged in operational execution. Active participation and leadership within local, state, and national professional organizations. Master's degree in business administration, Engineering Management, or related discipline is a plus.
