Job Description
Director of Engineering — Nora Hotel, West Palm Beach (Pre‑Opening & Operations | 201‑Room Lifestyle Hotel — Opening September 2026) Overview Nora Hotel West Palm Beach is seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to lead all building operations, maintenance, life safety, and preventative maintenance programs from pre‑opening through ongoing operations. This role oversees the engineering team, all hotel systems, and long‑term asset protection for a 201‑room lifestyle property with a spa and multiple F&B venues operated by third‑party partners. Key ResponsibilitiesPre‑Opening Build the engineering department from the ground up, including staffing, SOPs, and safety protocols. Coordinate with construction teams and ownership to ensure systems turnover, commissioning, and punch‑list completion. Oversee installation and readiness of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, and all hotel equipment. Develop pre‑opening and first‑year engineering budgets. Hotel Operations & Maintenance Oversee all hotel systems: HVAC, electrical, plumbing, water treatment, elevators, and life safety. Manage service contracts, inspections, and vendor relationships. Ensure all permits, licenses, and regulatory requirements remain current. Respond to and resolve guest-impacting maintenance issues promptly. Preventative Maintenance & Asset Protection Implement and manage preventative maintenance schedules for guestrooms, public areas, back‑of‑house, and equipment. Maintain accurate maintenance logs, warranties, and equipment lifecycle plans. Recommend and oversee capital improvement projects. Financial Management Manage the Engineering budget, including utilities, labor, tools, and service agreements. Monitor and control energy and water usage to meet efficiency goals. Review financial reports and provide insights to ownership. Support procurement and cost‑control initiatives. Leadership & Communication Lead, train, and mentor the engineering team. Maintain consistent communication across departments and with third‑party spa and F&B partners. Ensure fair administration of policies and performance management. Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required; technical training in HVAC‑R, Electrical, or Plumbing required. 6+ years of hotel engineering leadership experience or 2‑year technical degree + 4 years of experience. Pre‑opening experience strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of hotel building systems, life safety, and preventative maintenance. Experience managing budgets, utilities, and capital projects. Hands‑on, solutions‑oriented leader comfortable in a fast‑paced environment. Personal Attributes Organized, proactive, and detail‑driven. Strong communicator who collaborates well with ownership and operating partners. Calm under pressure with excellent problem‑solving skills. Comfortable building systems and processes from scratch.
Pay:
