Overview:
The Manager of Quality Engineering is responsible for leading the organization's quality assurance and quality control functions to ensure products and processes meet internal standards, customer requirements, and regulatory expectations. This role oversees Returned Material Authorization (RMA) management, conducts root cause investigations, implements statistical quality control methods, and leads preparation and maintenance of ISO certification and compliance programs. The Quality Manager works cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, operations, and customer support to drive continuous improvement and prevent quality issues. ▼
Core Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and maintain the company's Quality Management System (QMS). Establish quality standards, procedures, and best practices across production and operational processes. Lead cross-functional quality initiatives and promote a culture of continuous improvement. Monitor key quality metrics and report performance to senior management. Manage the end-to-end RMA process including intake, tracking, evaluation, and resolution of returned products. Coordinate product inspections, failure analysis, and corrective actions for returned materials. Identify trends in returns and customer complaints and recommend preventative actions. Work with customer support and operations to ensure timely RMA processing and customer satisfaction. Lead structured investigations of product defects, process failures, and customer complaints. Utilize root cause analysis methodologies such as 5 Whys, Fishbone (Ishikawa), and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA). Develop and track corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to closure. Document findings and communicate investigation outcomes to stakeholders. Implement and maintain quality control charts and statistical process control (SPC) methods. Analyze process data to identify variation, trends, and potential quality risks. Work with engineering and manufacturing teams to establish process capability metrics and control plans. Drive data-driven decision making through ongoing quality analysis and reporting. Lead preparation, documentation, and internal audits required for ISO certification (e.g., ISO 9001). Ensure company processes align with ISO standards and regulatory requirements. Coordinate external certification audits and manage audit findings. Maintain controlled documentation and ensure compliance with the Quality Management System. Identify opportunities for process improvement, waste reduction, and defect prevention. Lead corrective action programs and continuous improvement projects. Provide training and guidance to employees on quality standards, procedures, and best practices.
Reports to:
Director of Engineering Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Management, Manufacturing, or a related field. 5+ years of experience in quality management, manufacturing quality, or quality engineering. Experience managing RMA processes and conducting failure investigations. Strong knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and quality control charts. Experience preparing for and maintaining ISO certifications (such as
ISO 9001
). Familiarity with root cause analysis tools and corrective action methodologies.
Language:
Business-level English. Proficiency in Japanese is a plus for local stakeholder coordination.
