Engineering Position Summary Garnet Hotels is seeking an experienced, hands-on Chief Engineer to lead engineering and maintenance operations for our dual-brand Marriott property in Matteson, Illinois. The Chief Engineer will oversee building systems, preventive maintenance, safety compliance, capital projects, contractors, and the Engineering team. The ideal candidate has strong hotel engineering experience and extensive knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, life-safety, and general building systems. Key Responsibilities Lead engineering and maintenance operations for both hotels. Develop and manage preventive-maintenance programs. Oversee HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, kitchen, pool, and life-safety systems. Conduct routine property and equipment inspections. Ensure guest rooms, public areas, restaurants, meeting spaces, and back-of-house areas remain in excellent condition. Troubleshoot maintenance problems and respond to emergencies. Manage maintenance work orders and departmental priorities. Hire, train, schedule, coach, and develop Engineering associates. Coordinate contractors, vendors, inspections, and service providers. Manage the departmental budget, purchasing, inventory, and supplies. Maintain equipment records, maintenance logs, permits, and inspection documents. Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements, building codes, fire regulations, health standards, and company policies. Support capital projects, renovations, and hotel-opening activities. Coordinate equipment maintenance and operational needs with other departments. Promote safety, accountability, teamwork, and excellent guest service. Qualifications Minimum five years of hotel engineering, facilities management, or commercial-building maintenance experience. Previous Chief Engineer or engineering leadership experience is strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, life-safety, and general construction systems. Experience managing preventive-maintenance programs. Ability to read blueprints, technical manuals, and engineering drawings. Experience managing budgets, contractors, vendors, and capital projects. Strong troubleshooting, leadership, and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced hotel environment. Availability to work flexible schedules and respond to on-call emergencies. Marriott engineering experience is preferred.
